    Please, how do portraits work?

    Seems like this is a common issue, seen a lot of people talking on reddit 'n stuff about it, but I for the life of me can't figure out why my portraits just don't display.
    I set up everything correctly and I'm still shown my gross default DMV lookin' photo of my character instead of the one I want. Is it really just bugged or is there some hidden button I'm not hitting somewhere?
    I just want my instant portrait to be the same as my AP portrait no matter what job i'm playing ;w;

    From what I know, (instant) portraits and adventurer plate portraits have pretty much been separated. Meaning you can't use your AP portrait as your instant portrait directly. Instant portraits use the portraits that are assigned to each gear set.

    If you'd want to use you AP portrait on any job you play as, you'll have to recreate it as a gear set portrait. You'll then be able to right click other gear sets to import the settings from the one you've recreated. Repeat this until all of your jobs have the same gear set portrait, and make sure "Use as Instant Portrait" is set to On. Keep in mind that any job-specific animations/poses won't work on portraits of other jobs.

    The system is rough, but it sounds like we're getting a little help with next week's patch:
    • The "Import Settings from Adventurer Plate" subcommand has been added to the Portraits window.
    • The "Apply to Adventurer Plate" subcommand has been added to the Portraits window.

    Although this is SE we're talking about, so it may still be funky. :P

    What could be the issue if somehow your glam plate thats linked to your gearset doesnt reflect the changes you made with the portrait. If you have the gearset linked to a glam plate that is.

    You might have to reset your gearsets to get portraits to work properly. This is from a change in 6.2 when portraits properly left beta.

    It's as easy as hitting delete gearset, then creating a new one. It gets assigned to the same number slot that just cleared up. (You'll have to replace these on any hotbars as they get removed on deletion.)

    FWIW, I found that I was able to fix the bugged-out gearsets not by deleting them (though that would've almost certainly worked) but by changing the /visor toggle and saving the gearset. Because the visor open/closed state is saved as part of the gearset, and 'updating' a gearset under the hood appears to be basically just deleting the gearset and writing a new one, it seemed to work just as well.

    (In the one instance where the gearset actually had a visor, I just then toggled it back to the original state and saved a second time.)
