That's a nice idea. While we're here, how about just uncapping the capped tomes. Four months between major patches is a long time. Maybe I have every job at 90. Maybe I want to grind tomegear for alt jobs in that time. Maybe SE should let me. Just a thought.
And yes, I'm aware that the weekly setup probably keeps people subbed (who seriously stays subbed for their weeklies? lmao. but whatevs). But I'll take any chance I can to bring this up lol

The issue is that if you uncap the capped tomestones, you will have raiders grinding like whoa immediately on patch drop to get a full set of unaugmented tomestone gear (well, minus the weapon if you still keep the weekly normal raid token system to get the weapon item) before even setting foot into savage on day one. And given the new "we're experimenting with releasing savage a week after the story patch so people don't feel rushed" approach, that's even more time in which groups could get themselves into full unaugmented tomestone gear prior to starting the tier.

Worse still, if you do this, if one group does this (thus having better survivability and higher DPS), now all the world first groups potentially feel obligated to do this just to be able to compete on the same level. Moreover, if all of the world first teams are coming in ~10 ilevels above what the base ilevel setup is, that has balance implications; if this tier, for instance, is meant to be viable at i610 but everyone is going in around ~i620, that is going to make that first fight a lot easier. Do you instead tune the fight for i620 (unaugmented tomestone gear) for purposes of that world-first race? Etc.

Yeah, the weekly currency cap is an annoying limitation, especially if you're trying to gear up alt jobs. But I can also see valid game balance reasons why it is that way.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

It's not going to motivate anyone who isn't already continuing to do the content after capping. Either the player has a need for more Astronomy and is already continuing to do the content regardless, or they don't so there's no reason to keep doing it.

At most, it benefits crafters focused on crafted end game gear by making it a little easier to get the tomestone materials and few of those crafters would be interested in discounting the prices they charge for that gear.

they already have the mathematics to convert to poetics they can easily do it for the midterm tomes easily.
Except that conversion requires visiting a specific vendor to have the recorded obsolete currency converted to Poetics.

It wouldn't work with current expansion tomestones where the game would have to convert on the fly.

I would honestly remove the cap altogether. let people farm if they want to and don't punish them for constently hoarding tome

Wouldn’t it make crafted gear obsolete?

Yep. Clearly these people don't care about crafters, only themselves.

MB flipping is the best way to make money anyway these days ngl lol, coming from a crafter. You can make way more in a short amount of time that way.

It's not just about the money, but having a purpose in the game. Personally, I don't care much about the money.

The only purpose crafted gear serves in this game is to feed bots and make Alli and Normal 8 man raids irrelevant. It's dirt cheap so cost isn't a factor, it makes botting lucrative and it's better than gear you earn from actually participating in casual battle content. It makes no sense to me that players will wail about how Savage and tome gear can never be easier to get for alt jobs because "we must force those 10% of players to stay subbed!" ...while casual players, the bulk of the playerbase, can literally gear in minutes by visiting the nearest marketboard, log out until next patch and have zero gear progression.

Crafted gear is useless for crafters except on week 1. It's a waste of time and effort to sell it. It gives us no purpose because we aren't doing anything a non-crafter can't access for peanuts from a bot.
