Retainers Not Bound to Patches/Expansions

So I did a thing. On my quest to get the quick-adventure exclusive Red Onion Helm, I created a alt.

My goal was simple, get this item by capping my alt in ARR and do dungeons to get items to convert to ventures to fuel the quick-adventures.

I made sure I did the the Aurum Vale dungeon (where the item dropped before) in the unlikely situation some items (the helm) were locked in quick-adventures until you did some dungeons.

I couldn't avoid lvling my lvl 50 alt because I needed the ventures but as I leveled I noticed I was getting gear from heavensward and stormblood, a expansion I didn't get to yet.

So If you are on the grind to get rare lvl 50 ARR gear my best reccomendation is to make an alt and the second you hit lvl 50 with one job, switch immediately to another job and lvl that so your retainers don't lvl past 50 because with every patch/expansion, the loot table becomes bigger and it increasingly becomes more difficult to obtain rare ARR drops.

It's either this or get incredibly lucky (the drop chance for me is currently at 0.0000533) or pay tens of millions of gil to buy it off mb. Best.

(edit) Or you could cap a DoL at lvl 50 alongside a retainer, never touch the job, and play lvl 90 DoW/DoM to earn ventures through other means.
