I correct myself: Leave it to the GM's*Don't even think it lack of GM it just the fact they don't have the power to even fix this issue they simple tell you to please delete your linkshell and rebuild. I'm sure once they make free company/ new linkshell system they be ways to fix this but sadly right now there is no way the only way is to delete and rebuild.
I don't even think you get a rep post for this issue maybe a GM telling you to fill out there thing and that about it.
Wasn't thinking a community rep as much a representative of customer support.
its funny how people try to bring this as fault of char when in reality its a fault in the system, it could and should recognize that the LS leader position is not there and should there fore automatically delete the LS. even if the LS leader was to retire from their LS, like mine did, the LS still remains, it let him RETIRE from it, which, in XI, you drop the pearl the LS gets broke, doesn't work that way here. The fact you have to actually talk to an NPC to break the whole LS and get rid of it is kind of dumb, and no, they will probably never get to you on the matter not because "it's your fault" but because i had a similar post up on behalf of my LS leader and gotten over 1500 views and everything, not a single official reply, and not any inconsiderate rude ones either.
Instead of bashing the person at the same time you could have simply said "In all honesty, they probably won't do anything about it, sorry."
Yeah you can call me a fan boy, and i'd defend SE like you said, but imma call you a noob, and its actually noobs like you who do stupid things and later on they get on the forums crying about how to fix their mistakes. so deal with it and stop crying already. It's people like you that are the reason SE thinks it can get away with their atrocious excuse for customer service. They know no matter what they do, they will have a legion of fanboys ready to defend them to the death.
I'm not saying you're a fanboy (because the first thing fanboys do when they're accused of being fanboys is deny it), but what you said is something a fanboy would say.
I never said deleting my character without breaking my linkshell wasn't a mistake. If I didn't think it was a mistake, I wouldn't have mentioned I did it.
Yes, I can create a new shell, but I can't use the same name without making some modifications to it. I'd rather not have to do that, and I don't think I have to. I am certain there is a way for SE's people to go in and delete the remnants of the dead linkshell, they either don't want to be bothered to find out, or they simply don't want to do the work.
I agree with the original poster. In the almost 10 years I've been playing FF Online, not once has a GM EVER done anything to help me.
Wait I take that back, I did get jailed for telling a person he was being a douchebag after I got kicked from my exp party so the leader could get his friend in.
Other then that however, I have made a multitude of requests in my past trying to get help with stuff like Ninja lotters, claim-bots, and even bots stealing a CLAIMED mob I had. Only thing I ever received back was "We will look into it". Maybe it was the ps2 limitations (tehe).
I'm hoping in 2.0 the GM's will actually have a little power when it comes to in-game justice. Otherwise what are they really being paid for?
To get together and compile a list of "funniest GM calls" and sit around laughing about them?I agree with the original poster. In the almost 10 years I've been playing FF Online, not once has a GM EVER done anything to help me.

More than likely, the problem lies with a limitation of the Game Master's tools. Which, yes, the fault DOES lie squarely on SE's shoulders for not arming their GMs with the tools they need to do simple jobs.
However, it HAS been stated that there are many, MANY changes coming in 2.0 -- the best we can honestly hope for in this situation would be to wait until then and hopefully they'll have better tools.
As much as you may THINK the GMs can do anything they want and have all sorts of magical buttons that can move mountains, they don't. :/ They're bound by tools limitations and policy. (Even if sometimes SE's policy is stupid.)
OP. I totally understand why this is frustrating to you. But I do honestly believe that the code/server/engine/SE something is so messed up they really can't fix it atm. Below I posted a link to a youtube videos a lala posted last week I think of him being in FFXIV jail goofing around. His crime? Poor taste in a LS name. At the end, the GM tells him, that player needs to go talk to the npc to change the ls name/delete the shell as he (the GM) cannot.

Again, not saying it's right that you can't just have the Mods/GMs delete your old LS so that you can re-build it again, but when they tell you they 'can't' I believe it to be true.
I think the OP does have a good point in that if someone created an LS with a truly offensive name I bet it would be deleted within hours which would mean the ability to delete the LS is there, just selectively applied.
