Yeah, this is one thing that pissed me off..The new targeting system works great with one exception. Because it's bound to the up/down buttons, players can no longer use up/down to cycle through the party list.
Please bind the key for target filtering to something more appropriate, such as the "Select" button on the gamepad, or the "\" key on the keyboard. Repeatedly pushing the button or key will cycle through the various options: All, PC, NPC. We only need those three options. This way, you can still target party members easily with the F1 thru F5 keys (F6 cycles through the rest). And on the gamepad, we can use up/down again to do the same as the F6 key.

They add a switching targeting system...that uses the SAME BUTTONS we already use to switch action bars.
How am I supposed to change target-type while engaged? -.-'
Yes! I forgot to mention that as well. It was quite frustrating for me at first. I'm slowly adapting, but it obviously can be improved like I said above.
Yes the new target system needs to have a lock of some sort in the configuration settings or something. The way it is now you always accidentally change it to friendly or enemy etc while in battle. Who in the world comes up with these ideas.
I agree with the OP 100%.
I'm too used to targeting myself with the up/down buttons and still in the habit of trying to target party members by pressing them as result of playing FFXI so long. I'm constantly switching modes before/after battles by accident as my action bar dissapears when a mob dies (why can't it just stay open?). I guess it will just take some time to get used to, but overall I think a greater benefit would come from allowing party member slection witht he up/down buttons and the ability to assign targeting preferences to any button, or even a combination of buttons.
Oh, and I agree that if they would highlight the enemy's name in red where you can see it's HP/buff/debuff status that would be sweet too.
