Gear does not affect the rarity of what your retainer brings back from a quick venture, only quantity.
Honestly I’m convinced the onion gear isn’t even in the loot pool. I’ve done quick ventures since 2.X and have yet to see a single piece of it nor any of the other pieces from that list. I’ve also never had anyone I know in game obtain a piece of the onion gear. Are we absolutely sure it’s even still obtainable? Legitimate question, this has been bugging me for years haha. But the stuffed bom bokos? Hundreds. Maybe even thousands. They make such great vendor trash hehe.
