    Retainer Quick Ventures

I figure this has been shouted into the sun a million times by now, but retainer quick ventures get worse every single expansion and are desperately in need of a rework.

With each added expansion the loot pool for quick ventures has increased by a large percentage without any real means of targeting what loot we get in return. Now this wouldn't be a problem all by itself if the loot obtained via quick venture was obtainable elsewhere more reliably, making quick ventures simply another potential means of obtaining said items passively via lottery.

However, there is a fairly large list of items which can be obtained from quick ventures alone, of which include the Onion suit and Peregrine Helm. The latter of which is untradable, a trait shared by many exclusive loot items from quick ventures.

Thankfully at least general purpose dyes have gradually been spread about into other locations in the game such as fete presents, lockboxes, and deep dungeon coffers. But there are still a sizable number of items dating back to 1.0 which can ONLY be obtained via quick ventures and become less and less possible to potentially obtain with each added item to said loot pool.

All I'm trying to say in this massive cloud of words is that quick ventures need a work-over to at least let us target the potential loot in clusters somehow in order to up the odds of obtaining some of the now needlessly exclusive items which many would never be able to claim otherwise. Adding the remaining exclusive items elsewhere might also be a quick fix to at least allow another, potentially more grindy avenue for obtaining these items.

Letting us choose the category of loot returned as a sub option for quick ventures might be a solid option here. Or even checkboxes to choose what loot categories to NOT bring back as to narrow it down a bit. I imagine such categories would be Gear, Housing, Consumables, and Misc. since these would cover just about everything that comes to mind immediately.

Before anyone says it, I am aware that every item exclusively obtained from quick ventures is cosmetic in nature and that I could very well complete all content in the game without it. This is not and never has been an argument. I just wish that these items, many of which even predate ARR, were more obtainable.

I'd support this, especially if the quick venture list of items received keeps growing patch by patch, or at least expansion by expansion.

Leave your retainers in low level gear (below 50), it affects the likelihood of bringing back higher level gear (I know this because one of my retainers is equipped with level 70ish Lakeland gear, and tends to bring back level 70+ items, even occassionaly EW level 90 Radiant gear, yet my other retainers are only equipped with newbie armour or up to level 50 if they're lucky, and tend to bring back low level gear, usually no higher than level 65, and yes, I've gotten plenty of the items on Reptiletc's list as a result (about the only one I haven't yet gained is the 1.0 Onion gear, although I have gotten a few Red Onion Helms over the years).

So gear level you've eqipped your retainers with definetely affects the reward pool.

I could have sworn this was patched out in the past. I will do some research to see if I'm correct. I really hope I'm not though.

Ah, it looks like what I was thinking of was patch 5.4.
"Retainers equipped with more powerful gear will receive items in greater quantities, with a greater chance of obtaining high-quality items.
    * Following this change, the chance to obtain rare items based on gear has been removed."

I'll try lowering the ilvl down on my retainer gear and see how that pans out. Really wish they'd just go ahead and give us an in-game display of what each ilvl bracket can potentially net you if this really does work still.

Coming back to say that I don't think gear affects what you get.

    * Completely removed the gear from my black mage retainer and what she was bringing back hasn't noticeably changed. About 5 minutes ago she brought me back a pair of Augmented Crystarium Trousers of Fending, ilvl 500 lvl 80 pants. I've still been getting lvl 60-80 gear pretty regularly (with lots of housing bits and materia as well)

    * When she was ilvl 570 in a full set of Moonward casting gear she brought back everything from lvl 90 gear to a single ice crystal.

This system needs some work since it seems 100% random with a splash of anecdotal evidence on how to manipulate it.

It does to a very great degree.

Equipment may not be a priority for those leveling through Quick Ventures, but you shouldn’t skip out on endgame gear for your Retainers. Some missions have ilvl requirements while gathering and perception stats matter, too.

Battle jobs prioritize item level, so it’s worth hiring your main class to give them older gear. Just skirting by on the requirements may also mean you aren’t bringing back maximum yield on hunting ventures, but keeping up with current content and giving them Tomestone equipment brings better results. An ilvl that’s within the range of current content expectations means your Retainer is bringing back the highest amount of materials it can when hunting for leather, food, etc.
    Hunting
Requires ilevel 528 for highest level targets
Targets monsters from levels 1-90, completing the task within an hour. Time required is reduced based on ilevel, and Retainers can bring back more materials with better gear
Good for farming crafting materials and reselling

    Field Exploration
Requires ilevel 516 for highest level mission
18-hour quests that bring back random materials, minions, or other items. Some items are exclusive to these ventures
Often not worth the returns, except in patches with minion releases that sell for higher profits early on
