    Coming back to play

Hello Everyone! I'm an old player coming back after a long hiatus. Like a lot of players i was disappointed with the initial release and wanted to give the new team enough time to fix a lot of the mistakes before making a solid judgment about the game.

Having a level 42 pugilist, I was very pleased and excited with the changes. but felt there was way more changed than i expected. I've since rolled a new character on a new server so i can truly experience the changes.

the announcement of 2.0 has me excited and i'm looking forward to what the team comes up with. I've read the development road map and was hoping some of the more experience or 'in the know' players can help answer a few of my questions. Thanks in advance!

    1) Has it been announced that characters will reset at the start of 2.0? (I'm assuming they are, but i haven't explicitly seen that anywhere yet, it's just been implied)

    2) Has the expansion of the armoury system already taken place?

The outline mentions this will occur prior to 2.0. I've seen some radical changes since beta and the first few months and i like the changes. Can i expect another radical shift with the armoury system or are things pretty well locked? Specifically level 1-50 not including jobs.

i'm expecting a lot of balance changes as i'm seeing clear favoritism for certain jobs/classes. I see a lot of WAR/MRD and WHM/CON. a few PLD/GLD and MNK/PUG but rarely do i see BRD/ARC, BLM/THM, or DRG/LNC. I find this surprising because ARC and THM were blatantly broken when I left the game.

    3) does the new UI still support the 'traditional' FF macro system?

the dev team has stated they want to bring the system closer to the global standard. While i personally think this is incredibly boring, because i hate the global standard, I understand the need. However the thing i felt truly made SEs system unique was the macro system. I'd like to see that stay, but i haven't' seen anything explicitly stated about it.

    4) Will the advancement of classes be independent of the advancement of jobs?

This is a follow up question for question 2. the outline states that jobs will advance via quests rather than xp. at first i didn't realize classes where different than jobs. Now that i know this, this seems to already be in place. but again it's not explicitly stated so i'd like to confirm.

    5) are there any planned advancements to the battle system?

I loved skill chains in FFXI. I haven't participated in any party play in XIV yet, are there anything like skill chains currently in XIV?.

I've noticed the implementation of combos. However are there cross-class combos planned? IE Thunder => Aero

    1. No character resets upon 2.0.

    2. Nothing terribly major changing, I don't think. DoH/DoL jobs are getting different abilities and a new resource system (CP for crafters, who knows what for gatherers), but other than that, expect the core of what you see today to stay.

    3. It should.

    4. No.

    5. Battle Regimens are returning in 2.0, just a question of when and how.

    6. No cross-class combos planned at the moment, nor varying intraskill combos, but the question has been brought to Yoshida and it's something they're looking into.

    ^^ As above.

In regards to combos, Yoshida has said that he does believe the combo system is currently too simple and is looking into expanding the combo system into something a little more complicated (most likely cross class).

Having said that, the new battle regimen system will also be implented in 2.0. Whilst little to no details have been released on the system, it will most likely be a team skill combo system that leads to extra skills/spells being unleashed during battle, one that will most likely take into account positioning and timing.

    Awesome. Thanks Hachi!

I'm surprised there is no reset. i can see why they wouldn't, as I have met several people that have everything at level 50. still it's a bit surprising.

Any recommendations on finding a linkshell? or is the go-to shouting?

i still twitch a little when i hear 'battle regimen' i remember successfully doing it one time after the beta. and it was the most complicated thing i've done since i passed thermo-dynamics some years ago >.>

    Thanks guys

You are better off researching forums and fansites and go to your server forums if you want an LS, most respectable and stanble LS doesn't come to you, you come to them.

Shouting works. The main thing to realise is that you are on a European server.

FFXIV community is a committed one, but small enough to get exposure. My suggestion would be shouting for a newbie friendly LS, catch up on all the content/quests you've missed. By doing this you will be exposing yourself not only to the game but the community aswell, allowing you to meet higher end linkshells or even just progressing the new one.

One thing to note is that there is little to do lategame in FFXIV that is soloable. Friends/linkshell are imperative in this game.

I had no idea i re-rolled on an EU server. That's good to know. I'll consider re-rolling. My first character is still on Sargatanas so maybe i'll switch back. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll research some LSs while i'm re-learning things. thanks for the help. i think i'm a week or so away from being able to try to commit to anything. i'd like to get the basics back down and wait to harass people for the stuff i really can't figure out on my own.

I'm frankly glad it's not solable. I think too much of the game right now is solo-friendly. I tried SWTOR and got bored fast. D3 was fun for like a week. but also got boring. there's only one thing yo really do: grind for gear. boring.

It's one thing i loved about FFXI, you couldn't get far past level 12 without a group. and just exploring is fantastic. Really glad to be back and having the game be playable. I'm looking forward to exploring the new content.

Thanks Lurex, glad to be back
