Over the top hyberbole is tho what gets people to talk!Over the Top Hyperbole such as: "The Devs hate MCH"
Is not constructive or help anything.
I think the issue with Machinist is its damage output, despite kinda being The Physical-Ranged "Selfish DPS"
But I think Ive been hearing Ranger Jobs all have this issue, a "tax" or something, Im forgetting what it was called.
So get rid of this 'Tax' and better damage and BAM, problem solved.
Also...Bring back Stormblood Machinist.
I miss that.
And it is true nonetheless, MCH is still full of anti player and toxic game designs while all other jobs got their "problems" more or less fixed. Like why is MCH one of the only jobs that still has to deal with cone aoes? Or not being able to cast flamethrower while moving? Or the job being barely playable with bad ping, which i don't have but i heard many people complain about that.
And the results of that neglect stand also, MCH is one of the least played jobs and mostly just picked for obviously personal preferences and not cause it is rewarding in any way. SE basically punishes MCH with bad damage and a harder rotation while other jobs do more damage, are easier to play and bring more utility to the table. So it's no wonder that players pick other jobs rather than MCH.
And when players already get frequently kicked out of groups for playing MCH or get told to pick dancer instead well then i think it is fair to say that the devs actually despise MCH cause their only answer is always a subtle increase to potency and for that weirdly always wildfire. And then you see other jobs get overhauled, pushed to the top like monk and MCH suffers from expansion to expansion without any end in sight.
Regarding the ranged tax, for other ranged dps this is mitigated by utility which MCH has absolutely none to give. So MCH should deal actually as much as the other selfish dps jobs but for whatever reason MCH deals sometimes even less damage than jobs that aren't selfish dps jobs.
MCH just feels like they don't really know what to do with it. It's been redesigned twice and still feels messy and disconnected with its own kit. Drill hits hard but does nothing else, Flamethrower is basically an emote, none of the AoE skills build the battery gauge and the Rook/Queen aren't great for AoE anyway, etc. It also doesn't match the rest of the physical ranged role, since it has no combat utility other than role skills (and Tactician, which might as well be a role skill). If they want it to be a selfish DPS job, it needs a lot more personal damage, but if they want it to match the rest of the ranged, it needs some support skills. Right now it does neither.
With Square making boss hitboxes stupidly big, the ranged tax doesn't even make sense anymore anyways.
I don't think they hate it but more so just don't know what to do with it. I wish they give it a redesign that not only makes it less ping-reliant but also have more flesh to it.
Mortal Fist
MCH was my main in 2016. I know many might not agree with this, but it was my favorite version of MCH.
Flamethrower does very little damage, doesn't build your heat gauge (despite being, ya know, a flamethrower), and forces you to stand still to channel, so you break it if you have to dodge an AoE (or if the tank does, moving the mobs in the process). You're better off spamming Spread Shot/Scattergun, to charge up for Hypercharge and Auto Crossbow.
