well in all honesty the trade window can be a bit intrusive. and if you weren't paying enough attention you may have accidentally tried to trade with the same person more than once.
to echo some of the others its probably best to just give a shout about it and let interested people come to you.

with no other intention but to offer cheer and some small semblance of happiness... I see folks can't even do that anymore....on the one day of the year folks dont have to be total asshats..

Sounds like you were being harmless, but a couple things to consider.

1) Don't just...randomly trade people. I hate this crap. I used to tell people no thank you, and they'd get upset. Then I'd pretend to be AFK. Now I actively close the trade window and do /no. I don't need garbage clogging my inventory-I have plenty of trash food.

2) Not everyone celebrates Christmas. To me, this is just another day.

Consider just...doing a shout. Tell people to come to you and get cookies, tell them to initiate the trade. That way folks who want the interaction can seek it out, and those who don't can move along or blacklist you. Unless you were continually opening a trade window with someone who was not interested, nothing would happen if you were reported. However, if there's more to the story you're not telling, reflect on that.

I was handing out cookies to folks in Limsa when a person whom I never interacted with came up to me and said "idc, go away, or get reported for harassment" When do folks say enough is enough with 4heads like this? all I was doing was spreading good cheer to folks and giving cookies out to others. So I stopped and left limsa....what a way to spoil things for others who only have good intentions. I would name and shame them but I would get in trouble.

Just forget about it. These days you'll find people being offended by literally anything. Including the air itself.

Sending trades to random people is like going up to strangers' doors and ringing bell just to yell annoying carols in their face. Its going to add to cheer for some, but just be seen as distraction and annoyance by others.

I think it’s rather sad how some values may be shunned as “unusual” & instead act hostile.

I am in no defense for OP nor in favour of the vast populi posts within this topic.

The magic for ambiguity, surprise & just once in the “moment” is taken beyond & past gratitude & interpreted as “violation” of space. Honestly if you don’t want it just decline trade & go on about your business.

Gratitude shouldn’t be thought twice, reflected or anything. You do just the good deed.

Not saying this out of spite or favour of anything but subjectively values over time & considerations are becoming less & more shunned.

It’s ridiculous something as simple has to be taken into differentiating ipinions, thoughts whatever…it really shouldn’t be…it’s best to not bother act at all or least with the ones that values you likewise.

A kind deed to a stranger will esnare you into something highly profane.

I can't imagine getting upset over someone giving me a virtual cookie, but who knows what was going on in their life & head at the time. Clearly they took your actions in a different way than they were intended. Best not to dwell on it and not let it get you down.

I remember this one time I was at Buscarron's Druthers in South Shroud, and some lala randomly just gave me a cappucino and coffee biscuit out of the blue. I dunno if they were quasi-roleplaying as a server at the establishment or something, but it was cute and made me happy.
