    Linux

I think Final Fantasy XIV should be ported over to Linux sometime after 2.0. Why? There are very few games made to work with it without the need of another program to emulate it. It would open up the opportunity to get more players in the game!

Do you guys think there is a chance of Square Enix doing this?

Probably not, isnt the userbase of linux still fairly small in comparison to Windows?

I was looking at Ubuntu's site, and apparently over 20 million people use it if I'm remembering correctly. Not sure how many use Windows.

I work with Ubuntu for a non-profit and we install it on computers that we give to impoverished families in third-world countries. Ubuntu is primarily big in either those places or emerging markets. I.E. - places without a stable internet connection readily available.

Hey. Ubuntu is also used in very respectable places like military organizations. It's a useable system.

I doubt the 20 million that do use it use it exclusively.

It would be the best thing in the world if game devs all over started supporting Linux. It'd mean less money going to Microsoft for Windows and more money going to devs and publishers while supporting a decent OS and would cause the single largest evolution in any industry ever.

Yeah, that's what's sad about it.

Over 400 Million people use Windows, and this was in 2005ish. Also "porting" the game to Linux would be yet another rewrite of the game almost.

They already had enough problems creating engines working with Direct X/Direct 3D. I don't think they have anyone experienced with OpenGL.

This. Its not a simple port, they need to remake the engine basically. SE has a hard enough time using DirectX, only more problems would arise when trying to port to Linux, and use OpenGL.
