If you have never tried it, Warframe can be fun for a while

It has the issue that the more you play it, the less fun it is, and around Railjack/400hours in, it starts getting terribly frustrating to make any progress. But, just for the gameplay alone its worth giving it a shot, shooting dudes and zooming around is really fun (Also its free to play!)

Not quite an MMO, but I have friends that enjoy both Genshin and Tower of fantasy. Both Gachas that I wouldn't recommend, but might be worth taking a look at why so many people play them, you might like them

If you dont mind P2W being a mayor issue with the game, Lost Ark and BDO have some amazing visuals and fun combat

And a more personal suggestion would be Flyff Universe. Its a VERY old MMO that got a reboot by fans, the grind is kinda like Eureka and it doesn't have anything like daily or weekly quests, so it has no pressure on that kind of stuff. And most of the game is the leveling journey and the people you meet, not so much the endgame

What other mmos people in here play that can be played alongside xiv? I need recommendations.

A few mmos that im not willing to try: Wow, new world and elder scrolls online... I don't really like the art direction of them.

I was playing New World for a bit. I got pretty bored though once I level capped. I think the lack of PvE group structure makes dungeons absolutely terrible. I can't stand ESO combat and they have never made any effort to improve it as far as I know. I don't play WoW as I don't enjoy the fixation on DPS and being a # rather than a player. I was going through these thinking I would have something I could recommend at the end. I can't say any of the games I mentioned are worth the time. Oh I forgot to mention Lost Ark. Good game but blatant P2W always keeps me away. I will never play it. Sorry I am not very helpful here.

Anyone who's into MMO should give Guild Wars 2 a fair try. It is quite different to FFXIV - it's heavily focused on open world. FFXIV seems like 80% of content is at leveling, while GW2 has 95% of content at max level, even though leveling is great fun too.
- There's no skill downsync, you can even do events in low level maps and you'll get lvl 80 loot (you still won't one-shot, your stats are adjusted).
- It's king of all kinds of QoL. Full inventory? There's button which sends all collectable material into your bank. If you have salvage kits, you can clear your whole inventory in 10 seconds.
- Pretty much everything is account-wide. Ascended/legendary equipment is account bound, so you can transfer the good shit in-between your characters.
- You don't really need to bother about having subpar gear, exotic gear is cheap and only 5% weaker than BiS (expect fractals, which requires more agony resistance higher you go, which requires ascended gear). Some stat prefixes are harder to get, but nothing impossible.
- Condi based builds (Conditions = Damage over time). Plenty of different statuses, like fire which stacks intensity, poison which stacks duration but also reduces healing, chill reduces stamina regen and is considered soft CC, so it slightly breaks bosses Defiance bar. Torment deal higher damage if target is moving and so on.
- Professions actually have depth. Each has base profession + 3 specializations which change core of how profession is played + talent trees.
- You can change your build anytime outside of combat.
- Professions have some very distinct features. Mesmer creates illusions and can destroy them in 4 different ways, which do 4 different things. Elementalist switches between elements, completely changing their weapon skills. Ranger has pets, which you can summon only after encountering them in a wild, gotta catch'em all. All professions but elementalist and enginner can swap between 2 weapons sets in combat.
- Map exploration, people are actually in overworld. Also megaservers system, which ensures that you'll find people even in the middle of the night.
- Achievement hunting is great. If you're unsure what to do, you can check achievements and go from there. There's some cool flex glam for reaching achievement milestones, alongside of gold and other valuables.
- Jump puzzles
- Events (FATEs but actually fun, rewarding and populated) bring world to life. Especially some maps have meta events. Hard to explain, basically players in map do various pre-events, which contribute to meta event, then main stuff happens and you all go defend city/liberate village/confront bad guys and so on.
- World bosses
- PvP is decent, definitely better than FFXIV
- WvWvW
- Seasonal events are so much better in every shape and form. Check out Super Adventure Box on youtube.
- Economy is great compared to FFXIV, gold isn't worthless unlike gil
- Some maps have great verticality, Tangled Depths has 3 layers (I still can't navigate the map after 6 years though)
- No subscription. Idk how you buy it, I think you just buy bundle of all DLCs for like 50-60 bucks. It also has generous free trial which has full base game
- There's real money shop, but you can exchange gold for the "premium" currency. I even upgraded to digital deluxe edition using just gold.
- I've been playing on and off since release, honestly don't really remember how good is story. But nevertheless, game has insane amount of quality voice acting compared to FFXIV, which is my main gripe about FFXIV story's execution.
- Comparing Charrs to Hrothgars is like comparing tigers to inbred house cats. Lore-wise, these madcats waged wars against their own gods. And won.
- 99.999% server uptime. No maintenance at patches, servers go only down when DDoS'ed.
- Can't really beat FFXIV in terms of OST, bar is too high, but it's definitely greater than 90% of the games. Check Fear Not This Night, Battle on the Breachmaker and HoT theme.

Only game where I actually like mounts. Mounts in most games, including FFXIV, are just glorified 25%-50% movement speed buffs with your character riding on X or Y (bonus points if they can fly without any restrictions and ruin whole game's immersion). GW2 has different kinds of mounts that do something different. Jackal has short teleports, which are also used in 2nd DLC maps to access some areas. Rabbit has high jump, which, again helps you access some areas. Rolling beetle accelerates with ability on CD or by going downhill. When you crash you lose momentum, but if you're good, you can go insanely fast and even drift. Griffin can fly and gains speed when diving down. So you can jump of the mountain, dive, gain momentum, stop diving and then fly at insane speeds. All mounts are beautifully animated. Also, in 1st DLC, your character learns to use glider.

As a progression, after you get 80, you still gain exp, but it goes into mastery system. It's basically horizontal progression, you learn different stuff, like better gliding, your rabbit mount can jump higher, beetle drifting, utilize specific mechanic in specific map. You can choose what to level first, but some things obviously have prerequisites.

Game is best example of actual horizontal progression:
- Ascended gear that I crafted back when it was released in 2013 is still BiS 'til this day
- You don't ever run in hamster wheel like in FFXIV. Whatever you do, it won't become irrelevant. You can't just wait for content to become old and then one-shot it using no level-sync like in FFXIV.
- Crafting legendaries is experience and a half. Relics are jokes compared to this. Making all ARR relics is I would say about 1/4 of grind required to make single legendary weapon in GW2. It's about 3-6 months for me, you can get most stuff in different ways, so it's never repetitive (unless you make it that way yourself) and you can stop, do something else for week/month/year, and then come back.

Most important point, especially since you're looking for game to play alongside FFXIV, is that GW2, as opposed to FFXIV, actually respects your time. You don't need to run expert roulette 5x a week to cap tomes, you don't need start raiding at week 1 just so you won't end up behind. You don't need to consume content when it's released, just so you can experience it the way it was meant. There's always something to do, and while doing pretty much anything, you get rewarded.

Worst point of GW2 is definitely performance - back when it was released, it ran like shit. Now with more powerful PCs and better optimization it runs better, but definitely not as smooth as FFXIV (servers are still better tho, no snapshots, PvP is actually playable).

Graphically, it's also not the best, but I would say that it's at similar level as FFXIV, with some strengths and weaknesses shifted around.

Don't think other MMOs are worth anyone's time. BDO/LA are P2W garbage. Dragonflight seems to be headed in good direction, but still seems very anti-new players. ESO is not my cup of tea, but some people supposedly like it. New World is dead. Tera is dead, Josh Hayes killed it, thanks Josh. EVE is just excel simulator. Games like PoE aren't traditional MMORPG. Some older games might be good for 1 week for the nostalgia trip, but that's about it. All we can do is hope that Ashes of Creation will end up being decent.

Tried PSO2:NGS, realized it's not an MMO, but a glorified gacha platform.

Waiting for Blue Protocol, although I fear it may just be another PSO2.

More recently I've found non-MMOs to be a good complement to FFXIV. Been busy building my factory on an alien planet. It has been a lot more fun than crafting in FFXIV.

City of Heroes Homecoming.

It's an older MMO and was discontinued ( Not because of lack of interest but because the company just...stopped ) but the private server is alive and well. It gets frequent updates too. Actually I might jump back into it myself.
