Hey,
I'm trying to find some like minded people. I'm a sprout.. I'm really enjoying the lore but would love to find some people to chat to and ask questions about the lore.

Well, you've already made the first step as this forum is a great place to start looking for information about the lore of Hydaelyn and her myriad cultures, people, creatures and histories! (Bare in mind that a lot of things are still very murky and much is just theorizing and not concrete information or proof).
An extension of that is to maybe make a post in the forum for your server (Alpha in your case) and see if there are any loremaster players or lore-interested Free Companies/linkshells you can join. Alpha's forum can be found here.
There was also an online community called the Hydaelyn Roleplayers which also included discussing the lore of the game as well, but that shut down a few months ago sadly.
Either way, if you were on Balmung or a US server I would have been more than happy to chat about lore with you and hopefully answer any questions you have in game! Alas though, cross region server travel is not yet available so that is sadly not possible, so this forum will have to suffice. So please, if you have any questions, ask away here! (I admit I'm not a loremaster but just a crazy catlady who likes the story, so there is a lot I don't know myself or have theories that may not be 100% correct as it turns out! The forum community should be able to give you the answers you seek in any event.).
Welcome to Eorzea in any event! (And welcome apprentice-lore-scholar too!).![]()
Enkidoh, thanks for the reply! It is greatly appreciated.
I'll check out my server forum now and look for some LS or FCs that are interested in the same thing. Would you consider talking further in Discord?
Feel free to ask questions here on the forum as well. Give us something to talk about.
+1 to this. Nothing brings this forum more alive (in a good way) than asking questions about random small tidbits of lore.
Also highly recommend cautiously diving deep into lore on your own. Besides the 2 Encyclopedia Eorzea books, lore interviews from fan fests can be found on YouTube and somewhat copied out on different sites. The blog Mirke's Menagerie on Tumblr is a very good source when looking into specific topics. The owner categorized everything neatly and everything is sourced with the dialogue from the game, book, or interview the passage came from.
If you have the time or know what you're looking for, Gamer Escape and Garland Tools are good resources for finding exact game dialogue. I also might use YouTube to find dialogue in certain cutscenes. Someone managed to take every single scene that has an Ascian in it and put it together in a giant supercut and that has been helpful.
A lot of RP forums and discords I have seen out in the wild may be good resources, but they may also be very misleading and full of fanon that gets passed around so much that people think it's canon. There's a particular Miqo'te RP discord that has some good info, but often passes around a lot of untruths so you need to be careful about where you're looking and make sure it's sourced from the game and not just made up. Pretty much any time one of my friends has asked me about Miqo'te lore and I told them I don't remember that in the game, it ends up that it came from that discord server.
And lastly, if you're super into wanting to get into FFXIV lore, just know that it's not quite as in depth as say Warcraft or Elder Scrolls lore and a lot of it, especially from 1.0, is subject to change whenever the writers need it to change. A lot is made up whenever they need something new as well so the lore feels less like a fully realized setting that a game is being played in, and more of a setting whose rules and history are being determined by the game as we go along.
Yes, don't be shy in asking here. We might respond with thesis papers and get all philosophical, but it's all good. Any headcannon theories or thoughts can go into the headcannon thread that's been buried.
The only thing I'd warn about this subforum is that it's generally a magnet for MASSIVE lore nerds, which means typically people who've completed pretty much the entire story. That means this subforum's got a VERY loose approach to spoilers, and I think basically defaults to 'two weeks after the content releases we don't spoiler-tag things' unless there's clearly someone who hasn't done that content.
Granted, a lot of them probably don't make a lot of sense out of context.
Welcome! Ask away and don’t worry if things feel contradictory or weird. There’s a lot of pieces to put together in this game, and not all of it fits together neatly.
Also don’t worry if things get heated- the regulars here can get passionate on things, but I like to think we are all cool with making mistakes. I know I misinterpret things a lot, hah.
