What's the most fun you've had in this game this year? Worst time?

I can't say I've had many BAD experiences. At least one that doesn't stand out in my mind. I did however have a funny one in a Trial where most people were new or at least didn't do it enough to remember the mechanics.

It was the Trial with the portals and birds. If you done it...you know which one it is. As the healer for that one I tried to explain the mechanics as we went. People kept getting decimated by the bird mechanic and I was trying hard to keep at least one tank and healer alive. I kept having to prioritize them even though the DPS were dying just as often. I eventually just marked myself and said "Stand where I stand. Half of you will die but it's easier to recover when that happens as opposed to 3/4 or near wipe." After about 35 or so minutes or so we finally clear. I kept at it cause I saw there were a few new people and I wanted to get them a clear.

The best time I had was with a friend I made in game. We played for about 6 months and it was fun to just sit around and do nothing or just run through roulettes. It just kind of sucks they left me in game mail saying they have unsubbed and probably wouldn't be back. I still have them on my friends list in the event they do come back.

I've made other friends since then but none have come close to how fun it was hanging out with them.

Getting one of my friends comfortable with healing was pretty fun. Like me in the past, he was all about DPS classes. I forget how the idea even came about (It may have been a lot of our own frustration from whatever the missing role was when we queued), but I offered to tank for him and he really enjoyed playing Sage.

Worst time? I dunno. Probably trying to prog frontline achieves. People are so bad.

The most fun i had this year was the Moonfire Faire. The obstacles course was really funny, especially talking and spamming emotes for 4 hours with the people there. It really had that festivity vibe they were going for.
Closely followed by this year All Saints' Wake, got a lot of fun partaking a emote war between Asahi and Hildibrand.

Worst time was doing my first ARR relic weapon. It was an absolutely miserable 3 days. I did it all in a row because i didn't want to engage with this content on a long term basis. Really the worst time i had in the game. I made a second the next week.

I'd say my best experience of this year would be progging/clearing Criterion dungeon wit da boys, and then making over 600 million gil in just a few days selling the mounts while it was fresh.

Worst experience was definitely Week 1 Abyssos prog. Getting locked out of parties for playing PLD for the second tier in a row was just bullshit of the highest order. Part of me is kind of worried they're going to end up pulling a Creator and massively under-tune the final tier of EW to compensate, though.

Yeah my roommate is terrified of Healer/tanking. She mains Monk and was actually the one that got me into being a monk. I told her I would heal if she tanked and vice versa so the pressure would be off but she still resisted a lot. When she DID do those jobs she actually did better than most but still has it in her head she is terrible. I told her she did great but if she doesn't like it much she can just stick with what she likes.

Oh yeah I remember the Beach Party that made headlines. It was actually a lot of fun and I hope there will be another Player ran event like that in the future. I hung out with a cat girl. She gave me worms. Quite literally. She just gave me a plump worm. After that I hung out with people who were training to be Blitzball players out in the ocean. Either that or they were just corpses. They never moved the...8 or so hours I was there. Talked with a lot of people and even did a set on my bard. The tips were good.

Regretfully, nothing out of early & end of EW was ever jovial nor conjured any positivity to relate much with anything or have had any positive experiences (still to this day).

While I don’t dwell much with nostalgia, ShB was perhaps the top pinnacle of my wonders & golden times which I was part of a small cohesive/friendly FC which felt “home-like” whilst in the pandemic (talk about silver linings..), met extraordinary individuals that no longer play FFXIV or are long idled & just the storyline, raids, all of it was a huge thrill for me.

Currently it feels pretty plateu with the current game under a limbo stage which is hard to conjure up to find much of anything worthwhile to do & also doing it with most people/friends (given everyone’s caught up with ingame errands & schedules akin to irl which sort of sucks).

EW’s silver linings made me appreciate more the smallest activities like roulettes, maps & attending RP coffee places which has helped to maintain being intact with this game & currently met very few extraordinary individuals which sometimes makes it brighter & engaging.

Can’t say I didn’t have good standings over the forums much lately as I ultimately incriminated myself (SAM Kaiten posts & Viera/Hrogthar’s), but its fine that there is still civility & rational topics despite some posts/topics still making it cringey enough.

All in all eager to see what lies ahead & more than ready to leave behind EW, hold dear to ShB’s memories & probably create more wonderful ones ahead.

PS: Adventurer plates are a fantastic feature! I strongly dislike however the variant dungeon rewards.

Initial congestion combined with minor lag problems prevented me from playing Endwalker MSQ on release and then I didnt have time to do it for a long while. THis year I finally did it and it was a blast. So it counts I suppose!
