    Latency issues on Chaos and Light DC

    Ever since 6.1 patch my latency went from a stable 45ms to 200+ms, nothing changed in my connection to any other service and this only happens when connecting to any European DC, multiple people are having this issue from Portugal for all 4 available ISP's working here.

    The only way to "fix" this problem is using a VPN, ever since 6.1 I had to purchase a VPN subscription in order to properly play FFXIV which makes no sense seeing that I use a Portuguese server in my VPN as that gives me the best ping, I currently have better connection to all 3 American DC than any of the 2 European DC by 100ms.

    By doing a tracert on the connection I can see its being routed trough New York.

    I have a 500mb/s internet connection, it should be more than enough to not get this bad of a latency.

    Greetings Adventurer!

    We would be happy to assist with your concern. Please try the following troubleshooting to see if this helps with the connection issues you are experiencing. Open the control panel of the PC and go to ‘Network and Internet’. Once there select ‘Internet Options’.

    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
    - Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"
    - Hit "Apply", then "OK" to save the changes.
    - Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"
    *Make sure your fire wall or antivirus program is not interfering with the game

    Next, check to see if the following port ranges are opened on your router. You can contact your ISP and request they open them for you

    Try disabling background applications and do a clean boot by opening the task manager and selecting the “Start up” tab. Disable everything and then restart the PC.

    Lastly, we suggest to power cycle the console and router by shutting down the PlayStation 4/Router and leaving the power supply unplugged for 5-10 minutes. 

    - Flush DNS: Within the "Command Prompt" of the device, please type the command "ipconfig /flushdns".
    - Reset TCP/IP: Also within the Command Prompt, type the command "netsh int ip reset" and then restart the computer.
    - Delete the Patch Folder: Navigate to the folder using this path This PC > Docs > My Games> FFXIV ARR > Downloads > FFXIV patch (Use for either the version update error or cannot download patch files error)
    Then either rename or remove the folder, the next time FINAL FANTASY XIV is launched, the client will repair the folder.
    - Change local DNS: Please try changing the local DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    - Delete local files with corrupted character data, please note this will not delete the associated characters.

    If you do not see an improvement, please feel free to respond to this thread for further troubleshooting.

    I appreciate your help but that copy-paste text is not helping. The issue especially on Chaos and Light lies within Arelion, formerly known as Telia. They seem to have massive issues which is why most people are only affected in ffxiv and (mostly) only on the EU-Datacenters. Given that SE is a customer with the server structure at Arelion/Telia it's in their responsibility to actually handle that and dont go the easy way out and blame other ISPs which aren't at fault. Either "ffm-bb2-link.ip.twelve99.net", "ffm-bb1-link.ip.twelve99.net" or "ffm-b5-link.ip.twelve99.net" are having massive issues depending on routes. twelve99.net are the servers from Arelion/Telia.

    E.g. If I reconnect now I have a wonderful 200-1000ms ping, I reconnect again I can be lucky to have 20ms. My normal value is 7-8ms which works for every other service I am using but not for ffxiv and I am not willing to spend extra money for a VPN on top of my sub. If the issue gets worse or ignored even further I wouldnt wonder if people are canceling their subs.

    Yeah, I see the same issues since today. It seems to be based on time of day for me as well.

    Had the issue for the first time months ago, then haven't had problems up until today. The trace-route looks about the same, but I'm from Germany so there's some differences.

    Still, the problems appear around the same parts of the route.

    Exactly, but square enix support all the time I contacted them seemed to ignore those facts and told me to ask my ISP to fix the issue where they have no control, it doesn't make sense that I live in Portugal and have 200+ ms on French/German servers (I don't know which because square can't answer me that question either).

    Greetings back, that is all good and nice advice but the Problem are your servers, its been about one month and the issues become only worse, during 6-9 pm (Mid Eu time) raids become barely playable, i have lag spikes non stop , up to FIVE seconds delays in the middle of a fight where i cant push any buttons other people stand still and then suddenly everything moves really fast to catch up. I just did an alliance raids and i couldnt even do my normal 1 2 3 rotation properly because it takes 2 seconds to refresh my hotbar.

    This is game breaking and makes me not want to even play anymore.

    and no it is NOT, i repeat >NOT< my pc or connection.

    Got massive packet loss issues for a few months on my end. Always on primetime.
    ISP: Telekom (Germany)
    Server: Light / Lich

    I did run PingPlotter a few times. It seems the packet loss occurs at most in the telia network.
