I would imagine there is a maximum size for this, and that size would likely be the same as a large garden or chocobo stable which occupy the same amount of space. This means the player would have to use up several slots to cover all the grass. This might then lead to some clipping issues with other furnishings.

IOW, adding different lawn types is a missed opportunity that should have happened when the housing system was designed and implemented. It would be a skin option much like the fencing and placard. To do it now would require redoing all the wards currently in existence, and with most wards filled across the game's DCs I just don't see this as something the devs would even consider.

It is a really nice thought though. I would really like it if we could do this.
All they have to do is make a texture change. You're just getting access to a texture change. The major work that is involved is only adding the new systems, and making sure it doesn't break anything. It's not different than changing the floor inside your house, and it shouldn't take up any space. I hate items that have to clumped together. With such a limited space in yards as it is, that is a terrible idea.

The lawns are not individually implemented like houses are. They are a fixed design to the ward itself. I'm afraid it's not that simple. Sorry.

When the winter comes, I place 12 or so snow drifts in my yard. It serves as snow, but getting the placement right isn't easy. And it takes up 12 slots. Serves its purpose though.

Digging this thread up because I got the idea of making my small plot lawn beach themed and noticed I would have to place 10 gravel blocks to cover even half of this space with "sand". It would take up 10 item slots, from a total of 20. Or 12 if we count the hedge partitions I need for hiding the empty nothingness I'd have to create on the other half.

Please give us flooring like indoors. Doesn't need to be much or super complex or epic, just a change of texture would be already an improvement.

Don’t see why they couldn’t just make it like the interior flooring as others have said, and have a handful of different “grounds” you can put down. It’s only affecting the square of your plot, and wouldn’t extend beyond that boundary.

That said, you can change the ground for your entire Island, but that’s an instanced outdoor zone… oh the things that could be more easily done with an instanced housing option!

I was in agreement with this at first, because the housing plots are generally raised on platforms that are surrounded by stone/brick/etc and completely separated from the grass of the surrounding environment. But then I realized the Lavender Beds is unique in that its plots don't have that same separation from the grass outside the plot — it still has the raised platforms, but your plot's grass is the same grass as the platform or surrounding area, which would make many fencing/lawn combinations an eyesore

Gods yes please, this would be really nice. And to benefit even more, add an 'outdoor balcony/yard, instanced, to apartments/free company rooms with that customization. Boggles my mind that they neglect both portions of housing so badly while it's the most accessible to people. They ignored it with the whole changing interior thing.

For the love of gods, this game should be more alt-friendly. At least drop the story requirements if you've completed it on one character & share shop purchases with the entire account, bare minimum. But if you pay attention to the picture you posted you'll realize there is a straight line of wood separating the yard itself with the rest of the raised section, this is true for all houses in all wards as well (unless I forgot a ward that don't do this), it means there is already a line separating them so I'd say this is not an issue unless you are that bothered about the grass on the other side of the line not changing too, which is actually not an issue still as you can just opt out of changing it.

This also mean they don't have to work too hard in making the ground something you can change, they just work with the lines already there by separating the textures fully, so I am all for adding this as an option
