Corrupted Aether Crystals

In ARR they played a fairly important role in our ability to pierce Garduda's storm.

I do not think they have been brought up much since then, but could be wrong and I am open to seeing examples.

Is 'corrupted' an aetheric type?

"Aether can be aspected into six elements—ice, water, wind, lightning, fire, and earth—and drawn towards two polarities: Astral, the active, and Umbral, the passive. It also comes in three forms: memories and souls which are interconnected, corporeal aether like the aetheryte, and forms of nourishment that are in constant flux."-from the wiki

Is corrupted aether a corrupted version of each type? Like corrupted lighting, corrupted wind, etc. Or would it be considered a 7th aspect? In which case could their be astral and umbral variation of corrupted aether?

And further, would a primal fed from corrupted aether crystals exhibit unique qualities as a result?

Just general musings on a previously introduced concept that has not seen much use in current lore.

During our quest to get corrupted crystals to pierce Garuda's storm shield, it was a running gag that we would get a corrupted crystal aspected to the wrong element.
The first corrupted crystal we get is wind-aspected which would have strengthened the shield rather than pierce it.
The second one is fire-aspected, which also wouldn't help us.
FInally we manage to get an ice-aspected corrupted crystal which is what we need.

Corrupted crystals are simply overaspected.

Since the Calamity, there has been much imbalance in the elements. Founts of over-aspected aether erupt from the soil and manifest into corrupted crystals. These crystals, in turn, attract the most unsavory of creatures, the most common of all being elemental sprites who, upon absorbing the crystals, become corrupted themselves. The Brass Blades are seeking adventurers to comb the desert and find the crystals, slaying any corrupted sprites encountered.

I think it's aether crystals that are more balanced towards umbral rather than astral energies? Given they're the result of the umbral catastrophe?
