I had low expectations and low standards before coming here because the other MMO I play is a p2w gacha(pay to win) nightmare. All of the things I hate having to deal with from it with do not exist here in FF 14.
I am not pressured into endgame and can gravitate to it using basic knowledge, rotational practice and actual expressions of skill by using my eyes and avoiding mechanics that can actually kick my sorry ass if not respected; instead of spending copious amounts of real life money to make my character gamebreakingly overpowered and nearly unkillable.
Getting endgame equipment also doesn't involve me having to combat wallet warriors and bot farms. Granted it is said they still exist here too, but they do not prevent you from finishing this game or reaching the end of its main content.
The time-gates on content feel reasonable too. Stuff that has daily and weekly lockouts take me around a month or so to finish all of the unlocks and rewards. The tasks for daily lockouts that are asked of me take less than 5 minutes to finish everyday and the weekly lockout challenge log rewards barely take me an hour or two depending on what it is I'm doing. This includes but is not limited to Tribal Quests and getting current normal raid tier drops to gear my "lesser played" classes.
This game isn't an archaic monster grind for leveling, granted some zones have that as a leveling feature (Eureka and Bozja come to mind.) HOWEVER, they're OPTIONAL. I don't have to do those if I don't want to. Those zones ALSO have other uses and rewards to be had as well. So they're not just about killing hundreds or thousands of monsters for hours at a time. (It's 2022 ffs. Why are games still around that force players to do this to level up?)
After playing this game for a year, I've come to love these commodities and even though I'm done with most of them, I still have other classes to play, and gear, and other activities to participate in.
I DO in fact read the forums, subreddits and several discords everyday and everyone's complaints do make me feel uncomfortable but it never persuades me to leave...it does make me worry at times yes...but since the things people complain about happen so rarely I forget about it every single time I queue up for roulettes.

There's plenty to enjoy. It got a lot of things right that other MMOs didn't. Access to all the jobs on one character was a big plus for me and it eventually got me out of my comfort zone of magical ranged dps. I was into housing in EQ2... the situation over here is unfortunate, but stuff like the glam system makes up for it. I never imagined I would be able to play around with the look of my character as much as I can here. It's nice to not have to commit to a set group of people to do content with and deal with all the drama and nonsense I would see in other games. That being said, I've probably been more social here than any other MMO.

The Lalafells sent another meteor our way, but this time we're ready. Defenses against the Lalafells are better than ever. To ensure the safety of our city, the Lalafell menace must be eliminated!
Because I'm having fun.
Any MMO is going to have problems. Solutions are rarely as simple as some want to make them sound. There comes a point that you have to accept they're going to exist.
Either you're still having fun despite the problems, or you're not.
If I stop having fun, then I'll move on. No use paying for something that no longer serves the intended purpose.
I love the game genuinely, Im a big fan of the final fantasy franchise to begin with.
I know the game has some problems but I haven’t encountered any that are so important to the point of not playing anymore. I tried other mmos and none appealed to me as much as ffxiv.

Sunk cost fallacy, mainly. Haven't enjoyed anything in a long time, just a history that stretches back real far. You'd have to be delusional to stay in a game you're starting to hate this much.
I'm gradually peeling off the game faster than ever though, thankfully. When the time comes, I hope I have the will to actually follow through for once.

I'm still having fun with it. If I stop having fun, I take a break and come back to it later.
Because there are things I still want to do in it. Even though I've only been logging in to do a couple roulettes a day, and deal with retainers/airship/submersible daily, I'm still slowly making progress on those thing I want to get done in game.

I get shy af so I like that I don't have to talk to people constantly but I like being able to do it when I want to. The community isn't too bad, plus I love making my apartment look nice!
Also, the fact that the game isn't some pay-to-win ordeal and the environment is really nice. Drawing my character and others helps, as I need some source of inspiration for me to do any sort of art and XIV helps in that.
