This is both a question and a thread to gauge current interest in the topic.

But how many sports are there in Etheirys overall?

We know there are probably some form of marathons, archery competitions and such from in-lore mentions and just implicit observations (if there's an archery guild, odds are there are archery competitions). There are even more logical sports such as chess and Doman Mahjong.

But when it comes to sports like Soccer, Basketball or more fantastical sports such as Blitzball, would those exist? And if so, would athletes be considered important figures at all?

That said, what do people think of the inclusion of Blitzball as of now? I remember there were people who wanted it a while back, and Yoshida did mention considering adding something like it to the Gold Saucer, but I think he was just joking as it didn't go anywhere. Maybe there wasn't enough of a push for it?

Blitzball would be a cool addition if they implemented it correctly, in my opinion. Could make it part of the Gold Saucer and add some more enticing prizes to the Gold Saucer list which would help serve as motivation for people to engage in it.

There's a hint to basketball if you go by the basketball game at the Saucer. Both Ishgard and Ul'dah gave their own fighting arenas if you count that under the sports umbrella. I don't think athletes would get as much praise or fame as they do in our world. Not unless they amass a huge amount of money and pull a Raubahn. Ishgard also supposedly has hints about a ball sport. I think we'll see a snowboarding mini game before Blitzball. I want to say there was even a few board designs drawn at one point. Yoshida is very into snowboarding and the last time it or Blitzball were brought up was how best to implement them or how'd they work. As do you try for FF X or X-2's system? Or do you make it different from both of those systems?

If they do Blitzball...I want it done in one of two ways.

1. 5 man teams and each player is controlled by someone.

2. You don't have direct control but are the coach/manager of a Blitzball team. You can just make call outs and the team adjusts tactics.

I also think Stigmascape was our teaser for snowboarding. The stance is there. We just need a board underneath and some control.

I'd be quite happy with a copy of Blitzball that was similar to FFX. I played a lot of that, it was fun.
