Is this meant to be an action game?

I was reading another thread, and rather than hijack it I thought I start new one.

It was brought up that other game (like WoW?) are 'twitchy'. I take it that there are other MMORPGs that are all quick button bashing reflex using much like arcade games?

Is that what is the route for FFXIV?

What I enjoyed about FFXI was its slower combat pace (more emphasis on strategy and less on how fast you hit a button).

I am curious if FFXIV will go the way of an action/arcade game with emphasis on how fast you hit things.

It does certainly not looks like it's going to be a twichy reflex-based game. Right now, I think that even the most position-based issues give you a semi-decent reaction time (even if I cannot for the life of me run from Ifrit's explosions).

No the game wont be your action pack swinging missing type thing like TERA/GW2, its more focused on strategy, trinity and tab targetting.

They already said you cant jump to dodge things, once you're locked into that target list you're getting hit.

I think it will stay very structure based, like ff12.

a game of this caliber is actually quite refreshing in the age of twitch. it has just enough movement and re-positioning without being too over the top. I can tell you having played Tera, Vindictus, Dragon Nest that all that fast action gets boring quick. I'm happy that we can marathon/kite and sometimes use terrain to our advantage. can't wait til the add in direct enfeebles (bind, slow) and maybe some small CC timer overrides

It's not a action game anymore, the people who wanted XI 2 made sure of that

I enjoy both type of game (TERA) and (GW2 have pseudo evading), FFXIV however doesn't need this type of streamlining imo, min-maxing stats with gears is part of the fun in this game. While yes people might argue you have more skill if you can dodge stuff, you also have skill if u have brain and play while striving optimization in this game.

Oh? So our final storyline boss was Shadowlord? Could have sworn I fought against the Garleans, not the Shaowlord and Zilartian Brothers. Guess I missed out

Yes this isn't an action based MMO and won't be.

Until they create Add-ons that does the dodging for you, that is.

Some people confuse setting one of those drinky birds to hit the 1 key with action.

more emphasis on strategy in ffxi? if by that you mean emphasis on one of three basic fight mechanics, okay.

i'm not trying to be rude, but do you know anything at all about WoW endgame?
