    Market Board on Brynhildr

Good morning guys. I have noticed something recently, not sure if it's because alot of guys are new to the game, maybe it's bots, maybe it's spite, but there is a couple of major problems with our market board. First of all I see alot of items posted for much less than the vendor value, I have legitimately bought items off the market board for 100 gil less than you can get just vendoring it at a npc and even just sold it at the npc and made a huge profit. So incase you guys are unaware, when you post a new items on the board the very first number that comes up is the vendor's value, that's how much you get for selling it at any npc shop. If you post it for that you actually lose 5% of the gil due to the tax SE takes. Don't bother...just sell it to an npc at that point it would be faster for you and not crash the game economy. Also when posting if you look in the upper right hand corner there is a button to "compair prices" use this...it is your best friend when trying to play with the message board. The second issue I have noticed is the MAJOR undercutting. If you undercut...Don't undercut by thousands...I promise you I will buy your cheap stuff and flip it for a massive profit...I have and will actively do it. Now just top be clear, I'm not complaining, frankly I love buying up your dirt cheap items and turning a massive profit, I'm posting this to help you out so you can make more gil than you have been. I hope this thread helps a little...<3

Please feed me your gil as I relist my items over and over again at my low price. I don't mind. I've got the needed mats stockpiled, they are easy to restock and it only takes about 15 seconds to craft the item then list.

In other words, it's a dangerous game to play when you don't know the resources the other seller has access to and you're not paying attention to how often the item has actually sold at the higher price. Raise the price too high and formerly interested buyers may lose interest, especially if it's cheaper to get elsewhere thanks to data center travel. Was it worth it when you're now sitting with 2 dozen of the item in your inventory and I'm still listing more?

But definitely good advice about checking item tooltips for Sell to vendor price before blindly undercutting the current low price. There's a lot of junk that gets listed that would sell to vendor for the same or higher price. My brand new characters send those players a salute for their generosity as that's how they get some extra gil when they start out.

Player-produced items don't sell because of their price. They sell because someone wants them. It isn't often that someone balks at the price of one of these items. Undercutting by 10%, 20%, 30%... all it does is crash the market.

When I'm actively engaged in selling, for example, crafted gear - I'm relisting fairly often. Crafters are well aware of their cost-to-produce. Why does a ring of aiming sell for 50% more than a ring of healing? It isn't because the single piece of light gerbera costs any different than the single tiger lily that is used in making the dexterity or mind alkahests. It is because someone undercut the ring of healing and the market did not recover since the rest of the sellers all dropped to meet that lower price. And the same is true for a necklace and earring of fending. Sure, there is one different ingredient involved (an ingot instead of a leather), but the costs are essentially the same.

But, I'll always see "Your Rinascita Earring of Fending sold for 100,000" followed by "Your Rinascita Necklace of Fending sold for 300,000." Why? The cost to produce is nearly identical. The buyer though... doesn't really care. They buy whatever is #1 on the list. Even though they just paid 3x more for the Necklace than the Earring. For nearly all purchases, as for as selling is concerned, all that matters is being #1 on that list. It isn't like someone undercuts by 10% and a worldwide notice goes out that "SomePlayer undercut by 10% on an item - everyone rush to the marketboard and buy it."
