There is no reason for Eureka's main storyline quests to not appear in the Journal

    As the title states.

Why are Eureka's main storyline quests not included in the Journal? For the past year, I thought I completed Hydatos fully and unlocked BA. Apparently not, I had no way of knowing since I did this content about a year ago and had completely forgotten about it. I had no way of knowing at which step of the quest line I was and what was my objective.

Why did I decide to check it in the first place? Decided it was time to just get BA done and get the Ozma mount, was thinking of joining yesterday's run but it filled instantly and I couldn't get in, no biggy just going to join another day. I still had this feeling as though I haven't completed it so watching a handful of videos and actual walkthroughs I retraced my path and stumbled upon my objective. But just imagine me joining, thinking I completed Hydatos and had BA unlocked when in reality I had only started the Hydatos questline while being maxed out on everything, done several relics, and upgraded a few eureka armor sets.

Never have I ever gotten so mad about a core MMO functionality missing than this. This was the actual part in the game where I got mad, not the wipes, not the various types of players, not my own mistakes in any content, or all the other missing features. Just a simple functionality missing without a reasonable and concrete argument.

So you can have a taste of how things were back in the days of Old-school MMOs.
Eureka screams of FFXI so do you really think they'll miss out not including how quests are tracked and done there?

My only counter argument for this, is due to how easily accessible information is online now, there is quick to access maps and guides online that showcase where quest objectives are that completely invalidates the intended effect of communicating with other players.

Its an outdated design back in the early days of MMOs and while the lack of quest journal never bothered me in my time in Eureka, its also not a good design choice for modern gaming.

It was a bit annoying but these quests do take place inside of an instance and they are trying to replicate FF11. I couldn't play FF11 because it didn't have a clear MSQ to start.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

Speaking as someone whos currently also playing FFXI. Love the game, love how open-ended it is in terms of wanting to dive to specific expansions and content.

Its is extremely terrible in trying to follow any sort of msq or expansion story because unlike FFXIV, you can start the game and all of sudden you walk into a story that supposed to be 3 expansions later and every story segment is spread so hard that I feel its almost impossible to follow a linear experience into wanting to immerse into the lore Vanadiel.

This is harking back to a discussion about new players having to go through four long expansion stories in order to get to the fun stuff. Personally Im fine with that as I dont see it as a negative but a positive in wanting to pace yourself with being introduced to the content FFXIV has to offer.

But I suppose these are just pointing out two extremes of an issue but Im already derailing the point of this thread

    *Looks at Rhapsodies of Vanadiel*
...It's okay, you were just nearly a decade late. No one blames you personally. :^(

I don't know how it is now, but FFXI at the start did have a list of the main quests somewhere in the menus. Then it marked them off as you completed them.

This is one of the primary reasons why I skipped Eureka while getting relic weapons for my main. Not mad at it, just not interested in try to remember/figure out where I was after the time I briefly went in there a year ago.

With tracked quests, I'd at least nibble at it here and there as I did with the other relics.

And we don't use those systems anymore (lots of them) because they weren't ultimately good game design.

We want our games to improve, not be stagnant or be worse.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Im going to assume that was the Missions Section tab on the menu. Its still there but I'm just saying for all the other big side stories and what not the way story progression is being handled is very confusing for a new player wanting to follow along whats going on. Why does the Shantotto Ascension add-on story show up when I first visit Windurst? As a new player I would'nt even know who she is or why she suddenly decided to make an army while the base story is trying to focus on the Shadowlord.

How come I suddenly get Rise of the Zilart (I think?) showing up when I zone into Jeuno a couple of times? Yeah imagine a new player in ARR going to Coerthas Central Highlands and all of a sudden you get a cutscene of your character walking towards the gates with Tataru and Alphinaud for getting into Ishgard. Its a mess of story progression and new players need that special time to try to get introduced to the world before bombing all sorts of story content to you. But I also understand that FFXI is a different beast in terms of design all together, so somebody like me who enjoys focused narratives wont be welcomed there as the game encourages you to play the game rather than forcing story (which is where Rhapsodies comes in anyway).
