and also sometimes the feature is bugged anyway.

at least on my end, even after updating my gears and updating my portrait to reflect said gear. Even after deleting my gear set and remaking my portrait and also making sure my glam plate is linked to the gear set that is supposed to be used for THAT portrait!!

...I still sometimes get the "Instant portrait reverted to default. Portrait does not reflect current gear" message. It really sucks, I feel like I'm doing something wrong and tried every avenue to correct it but nope. Its really funny how the beta version had more options and was a lot easier to get it to work.

I wouldn't go that far. The beta version was easier, but there is a lot of value in being able to set individual portraits for individual gear sets. There are just some really basic things missing. The option to use gear set portraits as your adventurer plate portrait. Importing your adventurer plate portrait into a gear set portrait. Automatically updating the gear set portrait when you update the gear set. Add these three things and the system would be solid.
