I wonder how they actually stay in business. I mean, who buys gil in this game, and what would they buy it for? It's not like this is a hugely popular game either, so a small percentage of a small percentage doesn't seem very profitable.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I really don't remember the exact names of these 'RMT players.' I just made up some names that were akin to what I saw. They use gibberish and random letters in their name, but my friends and I have now been seeing regular English names as RMT characters.I agree with LackingLadyLover RMT monopolized so much in XI it got to the point they were farming sky god triggers and selling the drops to players. Yes thats right at one point you could buy a pair of byakko's haidates for somewhere around $50 real money mind you. For the most part this is a player driven economy and an outside source such as RMT should not dictate it in anyway theyre not players like you or I in the sense they dont log in to have fun, do challenging content or even unlock jobs. Theyre logged in to farm money to turn around and sell it to you for real money. RMT have no place in the game. And to the OP I made a nice detailed thread a couple weeks ago about some RMT we came across and it got nuked and I got a nice temp ban of the forum and heres the reason I got:
Posting that constitutes discrimination against another forum member or group (also including forming groups for the purpose of discrimination), insults, slander, libel, harassment of a group or individual.
Posting aimed to create a negative impact on the community or its members.
I gave a name, profile history and urged players on other servers to see if they found RMT fitting this description because the one we came across said he has more then 20 accounts per server. So leave out names and avoid saying anything that sounds like your trying to form a group.
You're on my server, too. Go to Cedarwood and Bloodshore. You'll see a Mi'qote mage there riding on a Goobbue with her Lalafell "children of the corn" at Cedarwood. "Children of the corn" meaning that a lot of these players characters are all exactly the same customized character; they look identical.
What I've noticed with these Leve farming bots is that when they are on the Goobbue, they race towards the spot where the Leve mob is while on the Goobbue but keep running, dismount, cast/disappear, remount/disappear again and run back to the camp. It's like they are programmed to go to one point, do their duty, then go back; it's like clockwork.
YES! Those Apple Lalafell! I've seen them! They all have the first name Apple and then some other 'name' after that. There is a Mi'qote with Fght-something as its name that rides the Goobbue there. She's the leader of the other Lalafell who are identical in looks, and is the one who is fishing the Levequest monsters to PL the lower-lvl Lalafell.

Apple's on Balmung, too. Seems like this guy (or these guys) are really into this. I don't really see the market potential, though... gil only helps you with so much in this game, and it's pretty easy to come by.
If they farm it, it means they have a buyer. They won't farm without enough buyers to justify their monthly fee of 17 dollars x8.
I guess you're right about that. Maybe I should start up my own little Lalafell sweatshop :P
Bloodshore:
Cedarwood: (You can even see them farming the karakul ewes)
Castrum Novum:
...
Hey, there's a lot of people there!![]()
They could be saving up for 2.0's release...
I mean imagine it, shortly after 2.0 is released RMT's drive up item cost to ungodly levels and the newer players are kinda trapped not having high level crafting and gathering jobs to cope with the market.
Perfect shit storm in brewing
I warped into an army of Elezen women at Camp Horizon. My reaction was, "O_O".
Just because you don't see a demand for something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
