Getting really bad lag and disconnects since 6.28

My connection is wired. I live close to Sacramento where the servers are located. All the required ports are open. I turn off anti-virus and firewall before running the game. Ran it as administrator. Tried VPN. I even tried plugging the pc ethernet cable directly into the wall, losing wifi for my other devices in the process.

I don't know what else to do. No other games and apps seem to be affected. Only FFXIV. I don't even have to be in an instance. I can just be looking at the market board or standing around in an inn. I get 90006. Can anyone help?

    Greetings Adventurer!

We would be happy to assist with your concern. Please try the following troubleshooting to see if this helps with the connection issues you are experiencing. Open the control panel of the PC and go to ‘Network and Internet’. Once there select ‘Internet Options’.

    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
    - Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"
    - Hit "Apply", then "OK" to save the changes.
    - Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"
*Make sure your fire wall or antivirus program is not interfering with the game

Next, check to see if the following port ranges are opened on your router. You can contact your ISP and request they open them for you
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040

Try disabling background applications and do a clean boot by opening the task manager and selecting the “Start up” tab. Disable everything and then restart the PC.

Lastly, we suggest to power cycle the console and router by shutting down the PlayStation 4/Router and leaving the power supply unplugged for 5-10 minutes.

    - Flush DNS: Within the "Command Prompt" of the device, please type the command "ipconfig /flushdns".
    - Reset TCP/IP: Also within the Command Prompt, type the command "netsh int ip reset" and then restart the computer.
    - Delete the Patch Folder: Navigate to the folder using this path This PC > Docs > My Games> FFXIV ARR > Downloads > FFXIV patch (Use for either the version update error or cannot download patch files error)
Then either rename or remove the folder, the next time FINAL FANTASY XIV is launched, the client will repair the folder.
    - Change local DNS: Please try changing the local DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    - Delete local files with corrupted character data, please note this will not delete the associated characters.

If you do not see an improvement, please feel free to respond to this thread for further troubleshooting.

Thank you for visiting the FINAL FANTASY XIV Technical Support Forums!

I've also had this problem and am using webpass as my ISP. It seems like during gameplay when the issue occurs the game tries to ping 204.2.229.86, but never gets a response. I have tried the above steps including clean installing the game, replacing my router, and connecting via different methods (wired vs wifi). I don't think it's the game install because my wife on a different computer also has the issue occur.

Some symptoms I've been seeing is:
    - Game input is sent to the server. When it happens to me but not my partner they can see me move and execute actions, but on my screen no one is active or moving.
    - Chat still works
    - Game will eventually catch up suddenly or disconnect with 90006 error.

More technically I see my computer sending the same seq over and over again while receiving increasingly higher ack's from the server sometimes.

+1, getting the exact same issues. also on webpass. haven't run wireshark or anything like that yet - guessing that's where you found 204.2.229.86?

my traceroute is identical to OPs (nyecat) starting from hop 5 (64.125.69.65)

I'm running into the exact same issues

hey, the game broke for me after the last few patch updates. Dungeons, frontlines, CC or anything instanced where real time processing matters has exceedingly long lag times and often results in 90006 errors. The new update today did not fix it and there doesnt seem to be any issue with my internet. FF is the only game that seems to have this issue.
    I'm on webpass too.

Me and my girlfriend play FF in the same room about 5 ft apart and she has this exact issue while I run the game perfectly smooth with zero interuptions ever.
We both are even using the exact same model of wifi adapted and she pokeballs every 15 - 30 seconds.

I've opened up a support ticket with webpass, and they've been asking me for info such as running a packet trace to the server and such and trying to isolate the issue. I would also recommend opening a support ticket with your ISP to see if it helps.

Following up, created a web pass support ticket. Highly encourage you to create one if you are running into this issue & use web pass. They're working on it but no resolution yet. tbh the game is pretty unplayable at this time for me. I feel like it's gotten worse.
