It is not possible to hide yourself from lodestone. If nothing shows up, then either the search is done improperly which is not a surprise given how terrible the search function in lodestone is, or the target player is a fresh name change and lodestone has not updated its records yet, which it only does twice a day.

True and some people use ascii codes in their names. It can be hard to tell because some of them look just like normal letters.

i encountered a tank who couldnt be killed in pvp. i tried searching the name but no character shows up. I think this person may be a cheater

There are three explanations that I know of:

- They were still in the instance while you were searching them, therefore they wouldn't show up

- They have a tank of a PC and already exited and insta-queued something else before you searched them

- They crashed/were no longer online

It doesn't sound like a bot because bots will still show up if you search and there is no in game way (or out) to hide yourself. I'd honestly try to look via the lodestone first rather than rely on the in game search.

No, but GMs have a very distinct appearance and wouldn't have any business showing themselves in a pvp zone. Pretty sure you wouldn't be able to target a visible GM in pvp with offensive skills anyway, because they didn't go through the normal duty registration process, they'd appear with a normal nameplate and the GM icon.

You typically won't see them anyway unless you get thrown in gaol and they have to give their shpeal on why youre there. When I dealt with my stalker situation they were invisible while watching it and communicating through tells.

I still think it would be an awesome "double or nothing" PVP fight.

I have seen this happen a few times, no matter how I searched over multiple days a few dudes seem to have invisible names. I have always assumed it's due to ASCII or other tricky letter usage. Not common at all but seems to occur VERY occasionally.
