What do you think will happen to a failed data center?

Question. What's to stop people from simply travelling to Dynamis during 7.0 but not actually moving there?

Inevitably people will hop over for quicker login queues, but the easiest way to push people to drop roots there come 7.0 time would be to close off character creations/transfers to the existing DCs to funnel new folks to the smaller DC. They did something similar to populate Crystal's smaller worlds post split.

It'll probably stay up until 7.0 when the next expansion cause it to be flooded. 6.3 isn't all that far off and that's half way to the next expansion. But materia I dunno. It might survive out of spite.

Ill say this again. New servers have attachments / connections to ESTABLISHED and long term servers with huge populations, those connections allow for massively increased traffic in both directions. OCE is connected to NO ONE and as such making the transition to "critical mass" may be close to impossible.

OCE is the ONLY datacentre not connected to ANYONE, as such what you want may not be doable. Asking people to stay on a dead DC with "be patient" doesnt help when the playerbase is so small as to make doing content untenable.

But it's dead if you throw up your hands and give up on building the community. If you connect OCE to other regions... what want would people have to transfer there more permanently? To grab a house while continuing to play with other friends? Sure. To create parties in PF in Materia? Why? The real people to be had are in NA, time to choose a DC to visit and make the party there instead. To queue up in Materia? Once again why, the real playerbase is in NA. No reason to queue in my origin DC. To list things at exorbitant prices on the MB because there's no supply? Sure, but who's stopping another Materia player to go to NA and go shopping elsewhere?

Pretty sure OCE has been waiting for a very long time, it's not happening, stop with the "be patient" comments, it's just not happening, people are leaving OCE, not joining.

If that is indeed true, you always have the option of transferring or setting up on a different data center. If people really are bailing from OCE, there is nothing really that the company can do about it. That is on the players. My comments were mostly directed to those complaining about Dynamis. It is fairly new and needs time to build up a mature player base.

Kinda wild how many times some of us have probably seen this wave of "we need more, we need less, we need more, we need less."

I'm sure most of it is probably new players. (and OCE does have some valid complaints). But can't help but feel like some players just have a very short memory for these things.

Materia is nearing it's 10th month, with 30% of the most active players in OCE already transferring back because they want to do content at any time we want, leaving the casuals and remaining hardcore players to stay, continuing to hurt their own experience in the game and given a choice on whether it's worth it to stay or not.

The data center started off completely fine, until 3 months went by and a huge chunk of the most active people in OCE were like "Ping is great, but we want to do content at any given time, so we're gonna piss off now and not support the community." After those three months, Materia has just being getting smaller and smaller. But you can't see that, because you think you know better, despite not being the witness. You're not in this data center.

"BE PATIENT"? How about you transfer here yourself and see the decay of players that Materia is still experiencing? It's not going to increase. It's going to continue losing players until it nears the next expansion release. There is no way it's growing until then.

Want to know why I know so much about it? Because I've been observing the state of the data center every single day. Patience is not gonna solve it. Are you talking about patience of "Wait till next expansion release", or "Wait another 6 months?"

Dynamis doesn't really seem dead. It's active af whenever I visit it, just...DF queues suck. Materia on the other hand..

Anyone who thinks Dynamis is dead should go take a look at Seraph sometimes. The majority of the population went there (anyone else remember the 3000 person login that resulted in them shutting down new characters being made after a couple hours?), I believe like 50%, with the rest being spread out amongst the remaining three servers. The DF queues aren't even that bad outside of frontline but it's also a product of people choosing to go to other servers for insta-queues.

Judging Dynamis off of a month is a choice and we're absolutely no where near the state of Materia. I remember Zurvan having like 150-300 people active at peak times while Marilith sits between 700-1000 active.

You're correct in saying that it's a quiet DC but comparing it to Materia is an exaggeration.
