What do you think will happen to a failed data center?

I can't speak to Materia because I have not touched it but saying Dynamis is "dead" is not true at all. It's certainly not as active as the other 3 NA servers but it has a small, dedicated and growing community that I'm really enjoying.

Sometimes if it's early in the day or later at night you have to shout chat and see if anyone can help with your queue and I've had to hand hold a few newbies but it's scratching that social side of mmos itch I needed and wasn't getting on Aether. There are less of us so the net worth and care people have is higher.

Any talk of recently established worlds and DCs growing is just cope, xiv is well past its prime and there won't be another influx like the wow refugees again.

Theyll keep the dead worlds online just so they dont have to publicly admit to a bad decision.

Materia is nearing it's 10th month, with 30% of the most active players in OCE already transferring back because they want to do content at any time we want, leaving the casuals and remaining hardcore players to stay, continuing to hurt their own experience in the game and given a choice on whether it's worth it to stay or not.

The data center started off completely fine, until 3 months went by and a huge chunk of the most active people in OCE were like "Ping is great, but we want to do content at any given time, so we're gonna piss off now and not support the community." After those three months, Materia has just being getting smaller and smaller. But you can't see that, because you think you know better, despite not being the witness. You're not in this data center.

"BE PATIENT"? How about you transfer here yourself and see the decay of players that Materia is still experiencing? It's not going to increase. It's going to continue losing players until it nears the next expansion release. There is no way it's growing until then.

Want to know why I know so much about it? Because I've been observing the state of the data center every single day. Patience is not gonna solve it. Are you talking about patience of "Wait till next expansion release", or "Wait another 6 months?"

How about you read my subsequent message and come to the understanding that I was primarily talking about Dynamis. As for OCE in that same subsequent message I stated a solution. You can transfer. It may not be the solution you want but it is a solution. You have to understand that what you are experiencing is not the fault of SE. It is totally on the players. If players are indeed abandoning OCE for other pastures, your only recourse, if you want the experience of playing on a mature server, is to join them.

Debatable with how much traffic the game gets during major expansion launches. It's always quieter during the between periods between patches and patch population is not nearly as large as new expansion population (i.e. the people that come to do story and then leave afterwards). I'd expect to see a lot of returners and new people with the graphics update that is planned and the new QoL being added that people have been asking for. Will it be a WoW sized flood? Probably not and personally I think that's a good thing considering the only reason that happened was because of people doing some really shit things....so the less of that happening the better.

To answer your question simply, they would shut down the OCE Datacenter and merge the world onto the NA and EU servers based on which would have the better ping data.

...you know what, this is actually not a bad solution? I actually don't even mind losing the Oceania DC as long as the worlds remain and we get access to NA or EU DCs. If the solution is a merge, so be it.

I haven't yet had anywhere near enough trouble with queues to want the DC shut down or moved to another country.

Would most likely be with NA, the ping is better and we're ultimately closer to Australia geographically on California's side (which is where the servers are). EU would just death sentence the DC completely, ping wise.

Has it had it's issues. Yes. Is it dead and buried and we should give up? Not yet. It's not even a year old and you're trying to throw the baby out with the bath water. It's going to take time to grow so stop dragging it down.
