I want to set some furniture atop other furniture.

I've been trying to figure out a way to get the Eastern Teahouse Bench to be placed on the Oriental Wooden Deck. I can't seem to get it to work and the "float furniture" videos don't make a lot of sense. When I tried to move it to the indicated space it just sits on the ground and clips through.

Can Squeenix just make it so I can put furniture on top of other furniture? It would be a lot easier.

The problem is that there is no adequate 3 axis furniture placement system. This creates all manners of limitations on where furnishings can go and makes using lofts of any kind an incredible pain in the butt.

sorry there is no way to float gardening items, they are all fixed to the ground like wall mounted items.
If you manage to float them, they will just snap back to the ground.

Some of the issue could be solved by devs designating lofts and decks as "floor" rather than "tables." (It would also prevent the inevitable falling through, having to close the housing interface, run back up, and set one more item before you fall through AGAIN. Which is something I really hate.) Grant you, I have no idea how hard that would be to do for the devs, but it's a thought.

The floating tricks we use indoors rarely work outdoors. The closest we get is floating decks on top of fences.

The only way to get those items placed as you want is to use one of the various mods that's prohibited under the ToS.

Your choice on whether you want to take that step as other players have. If you decide to do it, talk to the players who are already floating items in their yard. No one is going to openly give you details in the official forums. Your best bet would probably be going to one of the housing related Discords.

The item placement when it comes to housing in FFXIV is very much left behind, likely ignored & certainly needs to be updated

As mentioned before, you won't get it to work as you want unless you use mods that improve the placement system which are against ToS

All this floating in door items is stupid as well, why don't SE just give us a third axis to move things by... it should be very easy... you got item in position... click button... then elevate it from the ground instead of having to use dekadent methods to make things float into the air.

In a game like Star Wars Galaxies you could do everything... including rotating furniture in any angle possible so you could technially place all furniture on the ceiling top side down.... that game is very old and it is strange that SE and others has not adopted the same features and for that sake other games as well.

But hey FFXIV housing is hardly any actual housing enthusiast worthy anyway due to the lack of basic features.

To be fair its the minium height requirement. I've seen people float the brick flooring up to the 2nd floor on the large forge facing to extend that porch. And people float the Gazebos about the same height and have 2 bridges to reach them for a look out tower.

And I've seen people floating the garden deck on top of the hedge partitions.

What you're not asking is how did they do it? There is no Stage Panel+loft/shelf combination to use like we have indoors. We know it's possible to sometimes glitch furnishings next to a house up by switch skins (especially in the position where a wall chimney or awning would be)but what about those items we don't see placed right next to the house?

If it was possible to do without third party tools, the information would be getting freely shared just as the information about the butt launcher to reach the top of medium and large houses got shared until people found other ways to reach a roof (which again may require the use of third party tools to place at least one item in just the right spot).

They're using third party tools and they don't make a secret of that. There was the well publicized outdoor market that someone built a year or two back in one of the JP world Goblets that again used third party tools since there is no way to glitch items down, not up.
