Why Is Dynamis Dead

I said holiday season. It's still a season, whether anything is happening or not on a particular day. From Thanksgiving on, there's partying going on til the 31st of December. Things slow down. I've already been to a few parties and have more to go to this weekend and others are likely to pop up. This has been going on since before MMOs even started.

“Touch grass” is an excuse. It’s a funny one—usually used ironically due to its absurdity—but still an excuse.

Let’s take this a step further. I’m sure that all of these parties are likely more fun than playing some video game, which is why everyone is going to them. Why doesn’t SE extend the patch drought so that we have more time to do all of these fun IRL things? No one should feel forced to play a video game against their will. It’s so nice that SE gives us the privilege of going outside.

Quit being so obtuse about this. You (should) know very well that the DC launch was originally supposed to accompany a major patch.

Bingo! Something went wrong with this roll-out, and it’s not on us. And no, I’m sure we’re not “supposed” to know that. We’re not management at Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. (a billion-dollar multinational corporation), and neither are you.

I came for the house. I got my two mediums. I leave for content. I'm happy.

What is your excuse?

Because DC travel severs us from all community features in our home DCs. We cannot talk to our FCs or message friends. We have to play content solo, which is a major caveat when we might otherwise have at least a friend or two on Dynamis to help out. It’s not ideal, and there is no reasonable excuse.

Cross-DC queues and parties need to be implemented as soon as possible.

Except it's a rare player with strong social circles that isn't also using Discord or a similar app these days. Even if I'm on the same world, I'm far more likely to be talking with them in Discord than using a game channel.

I haven't had to play content solo yet except by my personal choice. Queue wait times for me on Dynamis have generally been about the same as they were on Crystal, maybe a minute or two longer. It hasn't been a hardship. I know PvP is different (I don't PvP to know from personal experience) but otherwise I'm not hearing complaints from anyone in game.

SE already explained why cross DC queues are not currently possible. They didn't say it would never be possible but they made it clear that it's not something players can expect to see happen in the foreseeable future.

If we chose to transfer to Dynamis, then it's on us to work to build a community that others want to be part of. If all you do is spend your time on other worlds, was it really worth transferring to Dynamis just to say you own a house you never use because you're never on your home world to use it?

You do realize we're talking about how quiet things are on a North American DC, right? All of them have actually quieted down some.

Instead of adding 4 more new servers to the Dynamis DC in the next server expansion, SE should take 4 populated servers from the existing DCs to add to Dynamis, and then add servers back to each DC to replace the ones moved to Dynamis. If they add more empty servers to Dynamis it will just encourage everyone to DC travel to Crystal or Aether for content and players on it will continue to struggle to fill PFs, Complete Roulettes, and struggle to complete the MSQ on their home servers. The community on the DC won't take off if it's just left as the housing overflow DC no one actually plays on or puts their rarely played alts on the DC.

The problem is the compounding issue of:
There are no players and queues take forever -> I'll just DC travel and queue somewhere else -> The queues are even less populated now and take longer for the people who didn't DC travel -> They are encouraged to also move making the queue times even longer

This just feeds into itself, and there needs to be some effort to seed the population to get DF to pop and PFs to fill.

People would be pissed if they got kidnapped onto dynamis and had to transfer back and lose their house as a result.

Funny that my main is Coeurl as well but I'm playing characters both there and on Marilith, with most of my time currently spent on Mariith.

No one should have transferred to Dynamis thinking that the experience would be the same as it was on their previous home world. It takes effort and patience to start up new worlds. If people aren't willing to work with their new neighbors to build a commuinty, then of course the community will fail.

Honestly I went there thinking it would be like a fresh start. I hadn't been paying attention to really anything FFXIV related since Endwalker came out. So I was ignorant of the state of it, but I think I've resolved to stay here and make the best of it. Worse comes to worse I go back to Coeurl.

I would say wait until at least 6.35 to look at changing back. People are still working on their characters. They travel to where they know they can get certain things done quickly / properly (Unreals). The timing wasn't where SE wanted it, so there's not much to be done. It seems likely there's a bunch of people waiting to resub for 6.3 before they hop over.

I just feel bad for any new player who makes their first character on Dynamis not knowing the situation. There are a grand total of 8 parties active on the entire datacenter as I post this, and this is peak hours for the NA region (6pm PST). This is not how FFXIV is supposed to be played.



While I know this isn't a big "hype period" like during a new patch or expac, this game is still on sale. Customers are still buying it, and will run into an utterly broken situation if they don't check the forums beforehand. At least World of Warcraft combines all of its dead servers together so that people can still queue for content. There's large swaths of content that's simply unplayable on this datacenter. I have yet to see any reasonable defense as to why this is a good thing.

You can just DC travel.

That's the bonus of playing on NA.

If you want to feel bad for people, Feel bad for the Materia DC players that have had to survive for almost a year with a playerbase half the size of a single NA server.
