Why Is Dynamis Dead

I expect Dynamis will start filling itself around 6.55 when the expansion is right around the corner. There will be media hype, maybe popular streamers will pick it up again. If SE advertises the ability to transfer for free, people might do it.

Pretty sure Dynamis won't be filled unless they take out an entire datacenter in NA. Not even an expansion will get people to play there.

They made the mistake of creating the new Dynamis Datacentre with only new servers, instead of migrating existing servers across to it.
This might have worked in JP, Oceania because it was their first Datacenter, and maybe even the EU.

But Americans have this weird tendency to desire specific servers and specific Datacenters, to bandwagon. The fact that Crystal is uniquely regarded as a casual/roleplay datacenter, and Aether is the hardcore raiding datacenter when no other servers or datacenters in the world have this sort of thing. And so American players simply didn't migrate to Dynamis, forcing the few who did to travel back to Aether/Crystal for queues. They would rather bid against thousands of other prospective house buyers on Crystal, than claim a free house on Dynamis.

You could even say Datacenter travel was a mistake. If those who were forced to migrate to the new Datacenter were also forced to PLAY on that Datacenter, there wouldn't be as much of a problem. But Americans have to follow the largest crowd, so Datacenter travel has saturated all players onto one Datacenter instead of spreading them across multiples.

They probably didn't want to have what happened when they peeled off servers from the original NA DCs to create Crystal. People moved back in droves. And what exactly is wrong with being happy with the community you have and not wanting to be removed from it? Also, NA isn't just Americans. Dynamis is only barely 2 months old. Give it time.

Why is everyone expecting the new DC to be on Balmung levels of activity less than a month after release? These things take time to develop. There's no getting around that. If the DC is still quiet this time next year, then you're allowed to call it dead.

When it happened in the EU, we didn't have this problem.
EU was split into Light and Chaos, the existing servers were split evenly across them.
Sure, people had issues losing access to friends that would have been a world visit away but were now off limits on a different DC. The result was some moved from Light to Chaos, and some moved from Chaos to Light, to maintain those friendships. It was an even two-way split either way you swing it.

When Crystal (and then Dynamis) was created, you didn't get this with Americans. They didn't have an even split of some leaving Crystal and some joining Crystal, because it's not just about friendships for them, it's about server identity. Some players simply didn't want to be on Crystal, because Crystal had an identity they didn't like, and vice versa.
This is bizarre phenomenon unique to the NA servers.

If they took one server from each of the existing datacenters and moved it to Dynamis, all four Datacenters would have an even split of servers.
This might upset some players, but those players would be offered a free world transfer and house reimbursement. Say Siren gets moved to Dynamis, some Siren players might not like being on Dynamis, and so move back to an existing Aether server, while some other Aether inhabitants might want to folow their friends on Siren, and move to a Dynamis server. On average, it would be an even two-way migratory trade. But then you factor in American server identity and now that average migration becomes a mass exodus from Siren to other Aether servers.

No one wants it to be Balmung level of activity but we would like to be able to actually do content on it. As it is the PF has 0 listings for combat content on any given night, and queues for roulettes can go as high as 3-4 hours long.
That's pretty unacceptable and it forces you to move to other DCs or you just fall behind on content constantly. I love not getting capped tomes every week and not being able to do reclears because no one plays on the new DC.

Guess what? High-end content is also dead on Crystal. Everyone transfers. How many years more do we need to wait for Crystal to catch up? Is FFXIV going to be alive when Dynamis catches up? And, as you would gladly agree, we’re in a drought. We’re not supposed to play the game right now. We’re supposed to be playing other stuff. Right? So why the new DC? Oh, 7.0. To be released in two years? I’m sure Dynamis will be full by then. Which means…why do we have it, exactly?

Defending a multi-billion dollar company will never give you the reward you think it will. It’s your money. You’re paying for a product. As of right now, Dynamis players cannot queue for some kinds of content unless they disconnect from almost all social features. A multiplayer game without friends or a guild isn’t the best experience.

Despite Yoshida’s immense superhuman intelligence, I’m sure there’s some way to remedy this—as literally every single other MMO released in the past 20 years has done.

And, as you would gladly agree, we’re in a drought. We’re not supposed to play the game right now. We’re supposed to be playing other stuff. Right? So why the new DC?

I played back when Spriggan was new and I have xfer to OCE when it 1st launched, trust the folks when they say it'll take some time. Not even the additional play time for creating a character on OCE helped fasten the process. (if anything ppl just made alts and left after they got their reward)

There are ton of sprouts/players roaming around in dynamis. Also drought season also welcome new players if anything. Most queues seems to be around HW rn, been lucky a few times landing SB-SHB stuff. Obviously expert will get me with other EW players. :'D
