I suspect their goal was to have a functioning data center with room to grow before the Xbox beta started. It might have worked if data center travel didn't draw all players to a single data center.
This is just one of the cases where I look at the game and I can't help but think about how they created the problems with the very infrastructure the game is based around.
Who actually thought that separating people through the servers/DCs was a good idea? Like I get that you might want separate servers/instances so the game itself doesn't crash or get overloaded, but surely they could have done that in a manner that didn't eventually lead to all of these issues?
I know that the majority of the players on this game are overly fond of their tiny, cliquish communities that they've formed from the time when you couldn't even travel between servers that were in the same DC, but part of playing a big game is being able to play with as many people as possible and having as many options for interactions as possible. I feel as if much of the body count restricted content on this game wouldn't be an issue if everyone from every server on every DC could interact and group.
And now we're full circle with people asking for the removal of DC travel as if that's going to actually help when it's clearly too late to go back. They need to finish what they've started by adding DC travel across every region, and by creating a cross DC DF and PF.
It is a good thing - for players that are looking to join communities where people take the time to get to know one another.
Players that don't care who they play with and just want a fast content clear for loot are going to want to gravitate to where the most players are.
Personally I miss the days of players being restricted to a single world. Communities formed and players got to know one another. Friendly rivalries formed. Helping one another helped the community as a whole because of that interdependence on one another.
Now there's no reason to care about other players. Random player struggling in a group? Might as well kick and hope the next random stranger to join does a better job so you can get out of their faster. Not like you're going to see either player again when there are tens of thousands to fill the queues. There's little need to socialize as a result.
Personally, I'd be fine if data center travel was disabled. I have alts on different data centers so I can still play with my friends on each. It would make hunting for bargains on the marketboard a bit more challenging but I could live with that.
That depends on when they originally planned to start the beta. If they thought it was going to be over this past summer, opening Dynamis in November would have been about the right timing. It takes a bit of time for things to build up.

Sounds incredibly fake to me. If you had this much build up within the tiny communities on each server, how come everything fell apart?
Wouldn't you rather have people able to be genuine rather being in a situation where they're either forced to tolerate each other, buy a server transfer, or outright quit the game? Plus it's not like those small communities were all that great. In many ways they created echo chambers, and harmful cliques that picked who they felt like allowing into the main community and who they didn't (which still happens, I've been kicked on sight from the Marilith NN for leaving certain other communities). I doubt issues such as stalking and harassment were non-existent back then either. Imagine being trapped on a single server with your stalker.
I probably wouldn't be on this game if I had to play under those conditions. There's too much nostalgia around those conditions and the game needs to adapt and move forward, not go backward.




To each their own, I suppose. I very much doubt many share this opinion considering it's what led to several worlds basically becoming ghost towns due to players congregating. There's a reason Gilgamesh has the reputation it does. If you wanted to raid in Heavensward, you went there or basically didn't. Same with Balmung and roleplay. Speaking only for myself, I'd essentially have to choose between raiding and my friend dynamic without world and DC travel. Which, on the whole, would make the game far less appealing to play.

maybe but it was way way to early to open up the DC. Last time they did a server swap with the dcs people paid to go back their respective DCs. they should have just added on servers between the three existing ones imo.
