I mean, to be fair, I thought Bozja was the most boring, frustrating, mishmashed mess of awful storytelling the games seen and the irritation it left me feeling was second only to the absolutely asinine "go fetch my girlfriend wine" quest in the Ivalice quest line, and the one hour I spent in Eureka on release day was one of the most miserable and boring hours I've spent in the game period.
Different stuff for different people and all that.

I am one of the people who hate Hildebrand. I really don't understand the point of it. It's not funny to me at all because it's so absurd and caricatured. Worse, I find it has no logic in the FF world [personal opinion].
I finished the first series (up to heavensward), I refused to take the next one even though I tried to do as much activity as possible on my hand. Does it get better after that? I think I'll just skim the relic from the last expansion at this rate.

Not in the slightest. As they are slowly running out of ideas and start reusing the same unfunny "jokes" over expansions it only gets worse.I am one of the people who hate Hildebrand. Think of Hildibrand more like the anime Bobobo. It's meant to be off the wall goofy antics, and the logic is waved off. It also helps the devs push what they can do with the models and try new lightning schemes. Apparently Hildibrand is what helped lead to multiple of the more impressive cutscenes and the actual individual finger moving stuff, supposedly.I am one of the people who hate Hildebrand. The Stormblood Hildibrand antics on get a little goofier, and the WoL even gets a few goofy cutscenes and dialogue choices.
On an honest note, I dont personally find the Hildibrand stuff like....laugh out loud funny... But the fact that the cutscenes have so much zany energy to them and the situations presented I just cant help myself but chuckle at it.
So yeah I do like Hildibrand but mostly for the relief rather than the comedy.

I don't find Hildabran's type of humour funny and I didn't continue his quests after Heavensward.
Not that it necessarily matters for the story part of Hildy (again, love it or hate it- you do you), but keep in mind the series was a vessel for the devs to test out face animation and kind of work on MoCap stuff, that eventually led to the better cutscenes we have now.
Being able to go over the top allowed them to work/calibrate to the more subtle things we see now. Yes, including table-faceplanting Alisaie.
