you keep talking about leves, I know you havent been in the game a long time, obviously, but there are much better ways to level than leves. Leves is so 2010. Leves are only for if you are short on time, like they were always supposed to be.

    Hi OP,

You are referencing a review from launch. Most of the reviewers concerns have been resolved. It also sounds as if he was playing on an unreliable internet connection.

The current interface is not intuitive, particularly for mouse users. We do not know the exact overhauls being made to 2.0, it's difficult to condemn 2.0 itself.

I don't see how this game is becoming more FFXI-like. If anything, it feels more Aion-like with the RNG reaching into everyone's souls.

    Dear OP,

What you are talking about is the same as every good rpg, intuitiveness??? is not a part of an rpg. Its job is to make you think, enjoy and struggle to achieve a certain target. Ask anyone about ifrit battles and they will tell you each hates them with precision rivalled only to their nerdiness. Now, addressing your game's hate, may be it's not for you. May be RPG's are not your forte.

I guess it's gotten better and I have read the development plans for 2.0 but I'm afraid that it doesn't really add much to the game except bring it closer to XI. If we recall PC Gamer's review of FFXIV, the game got a score of 30 for these reasons:

    http://www.pcgamer.com/review/final-fantasy-xiv-review/

    -Shallow and slow
    -Grind heavy
    -Horrible interface
    -Nonsensical player limitations

2.0 doesn't seem to address any of these complaints. The game still has a massive delay which is not present in modern (it wasn't even present in old) mmos, the game still sticks to its 90s roots of forcing players to grind mobs, only allowing a maximum of 8 leve quests in a 24 hour period (the leve quests aren't even that fun). The interface looks like it was developed for a console, I found it easy to look past this flaw in FFXI because it was a port from a PS2 game but seeing as how FFXIV was developed specifically for the PC this is unacceptable. The PC Gamer article describes it as "an interface that demands 12 clicks to change your weapon, robs this of any potential."

I don't know what the stance on WoW is on this board but I'm going to assume it's neutral. While WoW was simple, it was also extremely fluid and excelled at what it was supposed to excel at.From FFXIV's 2.0 mission statement it still feels like one big overambitious project. The zone design feels lazy, the leveling feels lazy, and it feels like the crafting was just tacked on as an afterthought to keep players busy. WoW may be simple but it did a great job at blending battles with the lore. I don't even know why I'm fighting monsters or doing guildleves, the two parts of the game feel so disconnected.
You DO realize version 2.0 isn't out yet, right? It will not be until Sept/Oct ish...

This is like saying I enjoy driving stick shift over automatic transmission, except I like it better when my gears are in random order, my clutch has a 2 second delay, and my speedometer is in exponential notation.

That would be entertaing though, just gotta wear a seat belt and have full side airbags for when it all goes horribly wrong.

Guildleves (at least when they're available) make leveling a little bit faster but they still don't make them any more fun. It's absolutely unacceptable to copy and paste 2003 MMORPG features into a 2010+ game. They released a 2.0 mission statement. They outline all of their plans for the future of this game on that PDF file and it's not hard to get a realistic idea of what you're going to get. All I'm saying is it doesn't seem to be enough seeing as how Square is looking to release this game again.
They already said every window will be customizable. And Grinding is a part of MMOs, thats how they retain their money. And the leveling is already extremely easy, I can get 50 in a week. What more do you want? I actually wish they would have made leveling harder.

It's been said a few times that they plan to slow the pace of things, but for the sake of pre-2.0 they wanted to make everything accessible quickly and easily. Not unlike the debacle that was abyssea.

I don't know why people bash other people's opinion so badly. But seeing as probably only dedicated players are left to play ff14 I guess its understandable that people are ready to defend SE whenever people actually try to point out some of the flaws as to why this game has so lil people playing. I also find this game to be pretty annoying myself for numerous reasons.

    1. Grinding, not many poeple likes to grind cause its repetitive and boring

    2. Findning the mobs to actually grind. It was already boring enough to grind but I had to actually walk and look for a good place to grind cause the level of the mobs are so random. I would be killing level 10 mobs and I walk a lil deeper looking for level 14 or 15 mobs and then the monsters level just randomly jumps up to 40s and 50s.

    3. Attacks are slow and damages are low. Most popular mmorpgs tends to have one or the other but ff14 doesnt have either of them. When attacking even as a monk, whos attack should be the quickest, I feel like im attacking with a two-hand sword and the damage I see is pitiful. And when you try to use a skill in between attacks to shorten the gap it just doesnt, and you still have to wait. This makes me feel like I'm playing a turn base game

    4. The feeling of progession. Every mmorpg I played always progessed into new areas when you level up to a certain point. But I dont actually feel like I am in this game. I been in Black Shroud forever, since level 1 to 34. I know I could just go to Uld'ah and whatever. But then I would have to look and look for a new place to grind on and thats just a lot of walking and wasting time.

    5. Quest, it's just horrible. You actually have to look for side-quest that doesnt even give much experince. Its a huge wasting of your time. Main story line is interesting but other than that everything about the quest is just feels useless.

    6. Gil and items. The fact that monster doesnt drop any equipement in mmorpg just doesnt make any sense to me actually in any game, and it doesnt drop gil either. I don't want to waste my time gathering and even try to craft anything at my level. I just want to level and get geared, but getting geared as I level seems impossible in this game so far.

    7. Crafting. Its just so much work. I try looking it up and try to making stuff and its just a huge headach for me and I'm sure there is a lot of lazy players out there that probably wont even bother to craft cause of this and the fact this is one of the only ways to get gears makes it annoying.

    8. Everywhere looks the same. You go out into a black shroud and everywhere you go in blackshroud looks absolutable the same. Its just horrible way to make a game especially when there so lil different areas in the games.

    7. Big towns. Making my ways around the town to hand in quest and stuff are just incrediably time consuming. Making it very annoying and the fact there is no way to get to the other side of the town any faster makes it even worse.

    8. Jobs, this sounded great when I came back to play ff14 that there was this job you could get to upgrade your base class to a new one. But quickly i found this to be a huge disappointment. It limits you from using other class ability, and this is especially bad for people that can't use conj. It just doesn't seem all that important to get a job at all.

Theres tons of other stuffs that makes this game pretty unfriendly to players (cough cough UI) and I'm sure to dedicated players its something they can over look but I'm sure SE didnt make this for just the small group of hardcore players and they want this game to be big and successful. I want to contiune playing ff14, cause im a big fan of SE myself. I hope the new 2.0 fixes some of these problem
