They portrayed it much more like a group experience but here I am doing the same leve's in the same zone with the same music against the same enemies for several hours on end. 90% of the time alone~

BTW: I really must say that the cinimatics in FFXIV are very well done and unlike any other mmorpg i've played out there beside from ffxi. If you want a story you can rely on getting it here.
Have you perhaps thought of doing leve-linking with your friends?
It's pretty worth it! You can usually ramp up the difficulty by a lot.

Hell the other day I was doing Faction Leves with a PUG, good heavens those drakes were murderous, guy set the difficulty at +9, we were facing a small group of L59 foes, oh god. It was a boss battle in and of itself D:

I have done leves with others a few times and it was fun, but nothing in this game has really made it mandatory to group, so other people dont seem to want to group up, thus I haven't actually made any friends in game.

Try playing Tera. While its beautiful, the combat is fun but, you level fast by questing using traditional hub and spoke. Once you cap you can grind 2 dungeons and play the RNG crafting game trying to improve gear. Oh, enjoy their community, wait there isn't one since you can solo to cap in 3 days.

That's why 1 month after introduction people have left or just sit and complain about the repetition and RNG at end game. The game has no soul. That is why I returned to XIV. I have faith in SE to improve it and to make it great in 2.0. If not, I will not have lost anything other than time with friends in a group oriented MMO.

FFXI had several great story lines, nations, RoZ, CoP, ToAU, WotG and that kept me engaged outside of Dynamis and Limbus.

So my advice is to go play something else. Hopefully you will find a game to your liking.

The only game I'd consider leaving ffxiv for is ffxi.

2.0 doesn't seem to address any of these complaints.
congratulations to be a 2.0 beta tester

just switch to keyboard/mouse UI. I read you can do it with 2.0. Maybe it is the the config menu?

The zone design feels lazy, the leveling feels lazy, and it feels like the crafting was just tacked on as an afterthought to keep players busy.
Can you post some screenshots from the different zones? I want to see the new Coerthas.

I hate the be the bearer of bad news but Final Fantasy in general has alway been a grind fest. Even pre MMO. The model has always been to follow the story and at some point if you didn't grind a bit between you would get to a part in the story you couldn't do and spent then next few days grinding. The difference here is instead of controlling a party you are one person in that party. That will not change in 2.0 that will not change for ff15, 19, moogles be praised ff50. Grinding is as much a part of Final Fantasy and chocobos, moogles and Cid.

The endless repeatable quest model where you solo to max level on quests and then raid the same place for the next 6 months is really no different except the multiplayer in wow clones just means other people soloing around you and in ff it means the people you grind with.

I'm going to be very blunt and honest with you OP. If you have not put the time in to play the game for more than 2-4 weeks total you have no right complaining so critically about it.

That's your main problem right there. You only played a few hours and gave up before you actually could get anywhere. I Admit I came in almost a year after the game was released, but even then during the course of the year I've been playing, the game has had drastic improvements to it's speed, complexity, and interface, with future changes in the making since the game itself is getting completely overhauled in the next few months.

It's not perfect yes, but other MMO's aren't either and despite the utter failure that FFXIV originally turned out to be, SE didn't give up on trying to improve it compared to some of the other MMO's that were released over recent years. In fact some of the latest MMO's were initially given good reviews, but fell to the wayside quickly after they found just how shallow game turned out to be.

I'd just wait until 2.0 comes out, the major bugs are tackled (Every MMO has them post beta), and give the game at least a week of play before you give any final judgments. Oh, and just ignore all the reviews out there because most of them out there are either biased, they didn't actually take the time to learn the game, and/or they typically aren't the most informed people even though they're in the industry. *cough*G4*cough*IGN*cough*

Calling 2.0 overambitious is an understatement. The way SE originally plugged it you'd think that it would fix every possible problem people have that it's surprising they didn't include it would run for public office to help fix your actual life too. I think 2.0 (or a Realm Reborn) is going to be very much the same game we have now. There is no reason why they couldn't implement all the fixes to the problems ARR is supposed to address in the CURRENT client. People think that something about the game prevents them from doing this?

FFXIV was such a disaster when first launched that I see little hope of it's revile. Indeed dropping FFXIV from the title would likely help a lot. Any connection to that name should best be avoided. How successful a launch a product has determines it's future. Attempting to "relaunch it" won't help because people aren't going to give a second look at it. They've been burned once, they aren't going to stick their hand into the fire again.
