Keep the negativity on Twitter. No need to import it in-game.Perhaps the best way to sort out clueless mentors farming mentor roulette not to help but to get a mount.
Introduce a system where you have to maintain a commendation level over a certain period.
Let's say 70% commendation rate.
A player can then use a negative commendation in place of a standard commendation, knocking down the commendation rate percentage.
The mentor will then lose access to mentor roulette until they are able to bring their commendation level percentage up again.
I know some will say this system can easily be trolled, and perhaps it can. However, I can't imagine enough people would use the system in a negative way to truly impact the stats.
I suppose it could also be introduced outside of mentorship too, but I don't really see the point. Those commendations won't mean a thing and a negative commendation wouldn't mean a thing.
The system may have to be tinkered because I assume DPS tend to get fewer commendations overall. I tend to always commend the DPS, especially if they are new and listened to mechanics, but I know most others default to the tank or the healer. Perhaps mostly the healer as I average 2 commendations a dungeon as of late. Never played as a tank.
Just one question: why?
You know, if Square Enix didn't want mentors to farm the Mentor Roulette for the mount only, they just wouldn't have given the mount as a reward.
Some instances would straight up never start if Mentors weren't there to farm.
Mentors are not paid for this, they barely get ANY benefit from the title (and people get so angry for no reason about that dumb crown I'd even argue it's worse than having nothing displayed) so who cares, really. If only 10% of them even try despite the absolute void of rewards for doing so, I'd say it's already a success.
Hell no. See all the trolls, waiting for such an idea to annoy innocent people ?
Idk... The first thing to understand is that there is no such thing as a "perfect system", this obviously applies to the current system but also to new ones.
I kind of like the idea of a way to "prove" the mentors, but im no into it because at the end they are just others players that still pay their monthly fee, still pay the shop items, etc. There is not a too "special treatment" besides the special roulette and the crown it their name. They have irl stuff and they are not a bible of all dungeons/trials/game events, they might forgot about some of them so punish them for forgetting about mechs, etc is kind of too much.
Yes, i get that this new "system" is to punish the ones that barely finish the dungeon without helping sprouts or at least give them some sort of help (i have encounter them too) but at the end it will also hit the ones that are always willing to help, but they just got that one duty lvl 35 that they did only once.
On a side note, Yoshi-P have stated that they dont want FFXIV to feel like a second job, like many others MMORPG. And im with him, FF XIV should be a relaxing time or at least "recreational" that you enjoy playing, I mean, you pay monthly after all.
Many companies tries "punishment systems" to attack bad players (by bad, I mean grifters, quitters, spammers, etc), but FF XIV have "positive system" to promote good behavior from the players: even if you failed every mech, even if you ignored every tip they give you and even if the players searching "the crown" is just screaming in his room how bad did you play, he still gonna write "gg tyfg! that was fun!!" because he want the commendation. It is not perfect, but nothing else is
Seriously?
They do, by far. Healers, and especially tanks get VASTLY more commendations that DPS as a standard.
Are people still crying over mentors? It's been over 5 years. Give it a rest. Just ignore them and move on.
Even without its faults the community would scream about how it was promoting negativity...
And they'd probably be right for once. People abuse the commendation system already, flinging commendations out for every little thing. People would also abuse negative commends, flinging them out for every little thing.
"Oh, I don't like your characters voice. Neg'd."
"I don't like your glam, neg'd."
"I don't like this duty and you're the lowest level here, this is likely your fault. Neg'd."
Those are just things that have nothing to do with what actually happens in the duty.
And let's not forget that chances are someone would make a list of sorts for people they don't like to be negative commended on sight. Can you imagine having unruly mentors attempting to negative commend other mentors they dislike out of mentorship? I can.
People aren't mature enough for this.
People already grief mentors as it is. I had a tank cleave 2 other people just to try and kill me. Little did they realize that we just so happened to be in the same FC on a small new server...
