These things just junk up my inventory, and further deflate the price of these items in the Markets as everyone tries to sell them. I've never liked LQs or quests giving you random crafted items, because it takes away from the ability of crafters to make money by selling them.
Nothing awarded by a levequest is something that anyone would make for money anyway, so it's fine the way it is.

    2) Quests tend to reward low amounts of xp.

Quests take time out of your day. I could make way more xp doing LQs, partying, or even just soloing normal mobs (that last one is key). So, why would I bother doing quests, or if could just run out and kill mobs to get faster xp?
You don't do quests for faster XP, you do them for the rewards or for the content they grant access to. Quests as a primary form of EXP is a WoW feature.

Ok to me it sounds like the OP is voicing their opinion that they dont want quests to be the bulk of your xp theyre just asking for quests to supplement a bit more towards your level does that sound right? Now while I do agree some people just do the quests for the lore and nothing else I am personally not one and since the OP has already stated their a lore buff its safe to say they do it for the lore and again they're just asking for a bit more xp. While I am opened to your idea OP most quests arent repeatable so this wouldnt do much for people looking to level all classes.

I don't even want exp from quests to be honest. I want scrolls, rare/ex items, maps, or other things.

"Rewards commensurate to time spent" is impossible, to be fair. We're investing 35+ hours a week pretending to do things in exchange for imaginary currency. All we're really hoping for is satisfaction with reconciling that; because at this point what's going on is we're investing 35+ hours a week and getting an imaginary kick in the jewels.

No thanks to the maps/scrolls. Getting around and doing my job are very basic things - I'm glad they're basic features of levelling and existing in Eorzea in XIV. Sinking time to get those basics are archaic mechanics of a time gone by when play needed to be artificially extended between CD-ROM releases. We now have broadband and digital downloads and instantaneous distribution of content via direct patching.

In fact, half of the things I see people clammoring over for "difficulty" and "experience" are just nostalgic whinings for anachronistic mechanics that were only in place to sink your time or act as a digital Skinner Box to ensure subscription/addiction.

Irony: Yoshida is in favor of and will be implementing a fog of war system...which is essentially the same as going to a vendor and buying a map or going to a dungeon and opening a chest.

Hell FoW is more work than a quest to unlock maps/portions of maps.

I would like quests to give a reward of some need or special item, like a dungeon map (not an outer world map, as this will be a fog map thingy), or rare/ex items. Or even just a way way of progressing to higher quests. (Like Fame in FFXI).

The xp is just a little bonus.

That extends, obviously, to the game's content. Guildleves will no longer make up the bulk of the leveling curve, with a larger number of quests added for players to partake.

so does this mean quests could be repeatable and also be a source of xp now?

Strangely I'm okay with fogmaps. It's a nice balance - even though you don't know where to go at first, once you've been somewhere you know where the hell it is. No wandering Beaucadine Glacier looking for the same ramp 50 times while you wait for a damn frost turnip NPC to show up - and yet you do have to work for it.

On top of that it encourages exploration -- it's not a terrible compromise if he doesn't want us to know where we're going for free. (Though, let's be honest, it's a technologically advanced society and our job exists entirely to go out and kill things. Even lore-wise we should probably have those maps pre-game lol)

Actually, I'm pretty good with that, too, lmao. It's basically the same as grinding - time in, battle out, gotta learn to rotate your new abilities if you want to win... but SLIGHTLY less mind-numbing. Unless it's just meant to be spammed, in which case they might as well just add 500 new guildleves and call it a day because that's all it'd be, in essence.
