So basically a shield tank? And this may be controversial, but why can't Dark Mind and Oblation just be a lesser damage absorption barrier version of TBN? Dark Mind just feels like an old outdated relic from HW and Oblation just feels like our old Rampart clone mitigation ability from that same timeline. Since DRK is so focused on using the TBN, why not just go all in and make its two mitigation moves lesser barrier abilities, too?

Oblation was needed as a way to defend others without worrying about if TBN will break and also to mitigate the dot busters we get in Abyssos. Because while TBN absorbs the dot damage, once it expires, the potency of the dot wasn't actually mitigated as much as other tanks mitigate it without using Oblation.
In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

It is not the same but at that point it would be like Ninja's Bunshin with maybe an additional input like Phantom Kamaitachi or before EW Summoner's Bahamut\Phoenix changes? So, random thought, but... would anyone like to see more of interest done with Unleash and Stalwart Soul?
Additionally, could Living Shadow be significantly improved by directing it (instead of it being a glorified DoT)? That could be by having it simply imitate your every attack at much-reduced %effect, having your oGCD gaps allow for GCD actions to be made on the oGCD (via your Living Shadow), or whatever else.
Would be cool, but that would render Sage useless, no? DRK's combat style focuses on sacrificing HP for damage (in our case in FFXIV it's MP), so they could work around that, maybe it would be a spicier gameplay.
If DRK's use of the TBN could be properly balanced with the old way it could drain hp from enemies to keep itself standing, then I'm all in for spicier gameplay style.
Right now, DRK relies on TBN far too much. DRK needs to stand on its own and so bringing its old hp draining/healing abilities back would be perfect , so aa to lessen the needed use for TBN.
To be fair, I feel like Bunshin should be the more situational ability (bring it back to a duration, not stacks, and affecting only physical attacks), and Living Shadow the big CD.
And I say that as someone who's mained NIN more often than DRK.
