Single Target Dotons

Hello, I've been playing on and off since a few months before Rogue and Ninja were released. I finally got Ninja to 60 and something's been bothering me.

Is there ever a situation where I should doton a single enemy? I see people arguing about it a lot and want to know the truth. I don't want to upset my team

The idea is doing it before a boss pull and refreshing your Mudra before the start of battle; at your level, no. Don't worry about it. Just Huton, Hide, pull with Suiton, and go from there.

You should not be single target Dotoning, it has less potency than raiton and takes an extra button press to execute.

This does not work anymore, hide cancels doton.

There are a very very very few number of instances that doing it would be worthwhile and it's unlikely you would come to one of those instances and even if you did, it's a minimal gain. So I would say "No." is the safest answer.

99.9% of the time no. There has to be a situation where there is downtime (i.e. the boss is untargetable) at a certain point in the fight in addition to said downtime being a certain length and even then, you get like 1 or 2 ticks off on the boss (P8s part 2 is an example of this). Outside of that .1%, never ever use doton in single target.

Never .... this is especially prevalent when you get Raiju at 90, you will lose soooo much damage if you use doton over raiton on single target . Basically the rule of thumb for the most part with any job , if an ability is aoe and doesn't have fall off damage or has a shared cd with another ability that's strictly ST it's not meant for your ST rotation

I only know one justified situtaion for single target doton: Alexander 12, because Time Stop doesn't stop Doton from doing damage

Raiton is 650 potency, Doton is 480 potency. You would be better off using Raiton and there are no instances in that fight where Alex is untargetable and you have the chance to pre cast Doton.
