I feel as though the development team should take another look at the concept of Cross-Role Glamours. It has been stated before that the class-specific restrictions have been put in place to "preserve role identity." Ever since the Shisui "armor" was released, however, I feel as though this sentiment has lost value. Tanks canonically wear bikinis into battle, and yet mages cannot wear armor. Furthermore, there are several NPCs (many of which are in the Bozja content) that do not adhere to these restrictions anyway. From a lore perspective, "role identity" does not exist anymore.
I propose these changes and additions to the current system, specifically for Cross-Role Glamours.
("Destination Class," or D-Class, is the class that the glamour is being applied to. "Source Class," or S-Class, is the class that can normally equip the gear for stats.)
• Your S-Class Level must be high enough to equip the projected item normally.
• The projected item must not be Job-Specific (such as artifact gear or weapons) if applying to a different D-Class.
~What These Changes Do~
It allows for greater creativity and freedom from an outdated set of restrictions, while continuing to incentivise leveling all classes. By keeping a restriction for the S-Class being able to wear the gear, the players still have to put in some time and effort to level the class and obtain the gear. Canonically, at that point, their Warrior of Light CAN wear that gear, so it only stands to reason that they can continue to wear it with a different weapon in hand. And speaking of weapons, there would be no fear of a White Mage wielding a Warrior's axe, which was used as a reason against this system before (nobody is asking for that right, we all understand why that wouldn't make sense). The Job-Specific gear restrictions maintain Job Identity with artifact gear, so a Scholar isn't going to run around in literal, actual Dragoon armor.
I would also add that, ideally, it does NOT restrict Class-Specific gear, namely the many sets of awesome crafter and gatherer equipment we have access to.
Additionally, this system would have the extra benefit of easing burdens slightly on the glamour dresser situation; as it is, we have to have several copies of rings, necklaces, etc. on-hand to use across classes if we really like that set. Depending on the person, this could eat into dozens of glamour dresser slots more than what should be necessary.
This would also affect glamour plates, as we wouldn't have to have a separate plate for every gatherer, for every crafter, etc., unless we really wanted to. It's a small help to all of us.
And just to make it clear, this does not pertain to anything involving stats; no class can actually EQUIP another's gear, only use it in creating the illusory gear known as glamour.
[I am aware this has been stated before in various places, but it's something I feel strongly about and am posting here for the devs to hopefully see.]
