WHM is easiest healer. i would say go for it, its not difficult to heal in XIV. just keep in mind, healers are expected to DPS when there isnt any damage going out. you dont need to keep everyone topped off all the time, its ok to let the tank get to about 40 ~ then heal them up. go slow at first then ease into more stones between heals, and once you get holy, utilize it. holy is your best mitigation as it stuns packs of mobs.

another advice to give to healers is once you get cure 2, drop cure 1. free cure fishing is a trap, its useless and you get more out of cure 2 per GCD. once you get about 70-60 percent mana use lucid dreaming, keep it on cool down, you'll never run out of mana unless things go south pretty quick.

if you want to dig deeper into how to utilize whm, check out the balance, https://www.thebalanceffxiv.com/jobs...rs/white-mage/ this guide will teach you everything you need to know, and trust me when i say that if you use whm to the best of it's abilities, its a hella fun class to play. good luck!

The beauty of the new dungeon systems mean you don't have to heal for actual people if you don't want to! You can level things purely through other means instead of dungeon running and never have to touch Duty Finder. I do that for my tank classes because I have the worst anxiety when I tank, regardless of how well I actually do. The beauty of roleplay also means you don't have to be On all the time and if you don't feel like running as a healer, you don't have to. In character my character is a black mage who dabbles in other magical means but may not be as good at them or be able to use them at all... but out of character I have all my classes leveled. She certainly can't punch or hold a giant axe, but I have the classes leveled anyway. I generally don't do rp stuff in a dungeon unless I've unsynced content with a friend for the sole purpose of doing rp in a dungeon.

As for how to level it quickly: do your cnj hunting log, FATEs, and leves until 15. Hunting log will get you there pretty quickly as well. You can keep those in the mix until you hit 50 if you want, but once you hit 15 you can start doing the duty support stuff. If you've unlocked GC/Clan hunts, doing those daily give a bunch of xp, as do the daily tribal quests starting in the 40s in each city.

As for healing advice: if you do end up wanting to test the waters, so to speak, remember your ABC: Always Be Casting. If your tank isn't taking damage like a wet paper bag that's underwater in the middle of a hurricane, you can dps. Choose a threshold that you're comfortable with - like, 55% health - before you start healing them. You can use your cooldown healing, lillies are going to be big enough healing as a WHM, use all of your abilities if you need to depending on what kind of damage your tank is taking. If they're using their cooldowns correctly and hardly taking damage, you have more time to dps. At 45 you get your best healing tool which is Holy. The 3 stuns before immunity and damage to all enemies is worth it. Drop yourself in the middle of the pack, keep your tank targeted for ease of healing when you need it, begin Holy spam.

I'm more of a dps main but I do heal when I want fast queues or crystals to get new materia. My advice from a dps main who heals on occasion (and healed some stuff during current content last xpac in terms of EX fights): read your tooltips. Get comfortable with dpsing as you heal - your first job is to heal, yes, but if no-one is taking damage, start throwing rocks at the enemy! Watch your tank's health, yell at the screen when they don't use mitigation-- wait, that part is for salty healers Watch your tank's health, keep an eye on your surroundings, use instant cast abilities when you need to move but need to heal (Tetra, Afflatus lily abilities). Don't be afraid to say you're new to healing or new to healing that particular dungeon either! Most people are understanding, but the only real way to grow is to say "go balls to the wall crazy with pulling and if I need you to slow down because I can't keep up I'll let you know." Some people may be jerks about it, but others will say "okay, no problem, we'll take it slower." Once you're comfortable, try other content if you want. You don't have to do anything you don't want. You can continue to do nothing but dps and tank in dungeons if you want and just level up a healer on the side for funsies in solo content. That's the beauty of this game.

The only real big thing on WHM that I can think of that is a trap is Freecure. Don't fish for it. Cure 1 is fine for spot healing and if you get a free Cure 2 out of it, great, but in higher content you want to be using Cure 2 and your other abilities (Cure 3 is an aoe heal much like Medica and shouldn't be used for a Cure 2 replacement.)
