My Roe Might Become White Mage?

    Hi y’all,
I’m playing Dragoon, reaper, paladin, and summoner. I don’t touch sage or any healer class do to being a wow refugee but I want to try playing white mage for fun and rp my character. My characters background is she was found as a baby near isigard and was raised by a elf woman. She learns to fight with swords, shields, and spears. She worships the fury. One day she goes to forest place to learn to get stronger with spear and magic so she can return to adopted mother and also join maelstrom to find her birth parents. I thought it could be cool to add she learns to become a white mage but I’m so scared to heal in dungeons and raids. Any advice would really be appreciated and I would love some critique on backstory if you like.

I'd say go for it! The MRD class quests incidentally feature a female Sea Wolf roe CNJ (the sister of the Guildmaster) who accompanies you during the quests, so there is precedent. You can always bend the lore to say that your character first learned Conjury and then learned White Magic as well through 'certain sources' in Gridania, and just leave it at that. The lore isn't that immutable that you can't figure out ways to make things like that work.

Either way, by all means, try CNJ/WHM, and even from a gameplay point of view, it might be something you actually enjoy! That's the beauty of the Armoury System - you're not locked to anything and can switch your class/Job freely.

Healing isn't all that difficult. Not as a WHM, at least.

I wouldn't be scared diving into a dungeon as a WHM.

There will be some hairy moments that you may struggle to get out of first (multiple people 3/4 stacking the debuff at the first boss in Aurum Vale, for instance or huge overpulls with the DPS standing in the bad stuff). But, as you improve, you will be able to deal with these with ease. You will be able to get yourself out of 95% of hairy situations (there will always be a couple that you can't).

So, dive in. I have healed in every major MMO since FFXI, as well as some minor ones. FF14 is one of the most welcoming communities for healers. The one time I ever had somebody belittle my healing skills was because I genuinely messed up. I zoned out while the tank pulled the entire last room in Satasha. I could have healed through it, but I was tired and was basically just being a Stone I bot and didn't notice the health plummeted. Still, a quick raise and nobody else died.

Astro isn't too bad either, but you have to use their whole skillset, otherwise you tend to go out of mana fairly quickly. However, since you mentioned just WHM, you will be fine.

Go for it! You can always do what I do with my characters and ignore the fact that I've taken jobs on them they never would "in real life" strictly for in game reasons.

If you're worried about healing not fitting your roe, they are definitely not a weakling role, you either die the first panel or live long enough to be the 2nd

If you want to practice, you can always do dungeons in duty support. It won't be the same as running with real people, but you can at least get used to using a healer in content.

For the first time ever in FF14, I had to tell somebody I wouldn't heal them the other day.

They managed to get a whopping 9 stack on the final Aurum Vale boss.

They said they got it all at once from the mobs, but I saw it tick up over the course of about a minute.

They died the very second the boss hit the next attack (nobody surviving that 9 stack), but I didn't res them.

On the other hand, I feel much more 'toxic' in other MMOs. Not to the point that I am screaming at people for not letting the tank pull, blah blah. The whole healing environment feels much more different and far less relaxed to the point it drives me insane.

The real reason I’m scared to heal is I truly tried to heal in WOW but I was new and I couldn’t keep up with party. The tank told me to go dps or he would dox me and hurt my family. This scared me so much and I have big anxiety that this will happen again.

try to look into SCH or SAGE instead. It will match the character better

Go whatever, no job in the game is limited to a singular race.

No, not even White Mage. Your character is special. They choose you. YOU are worthy. Be you small, large, green or blue.

You'll do fine. Healing's straightforward in this game. And Male Roes tend to be healers quite often from what I see, so if you want to go healer, trust me, it's fine.

    Break expectations, screw stereotypes.
