Why do I play female characters?

When I first started playing MMO's (star trek online) I started out playing males but quickly changed to female because it felt weird dressing them and watching them from behind (0.0) I realized I smiled a lot when I dressed my female non-modestly (o.o) and watched her from behind because it felt normal and still does. Problems came from other players(males) who ask me why I play female characters and I replied, love watching them from behind and dressing them up non-modestly. I love kicking ass with my beautiful female (Angelina Jolie - tomb raider) character. They called me homophobic and harassed me continually and made cat calls. I quit playing that game and started playing this one where 1/2 the player base's characters are female .... Thank you ffxiv

Because mostly the male characters look somehow weird in many games. Lost Ark is the only MMO i know where the male characters look really good. And i play male characters there.

    Cheers

Sorry to hear that you experienced that, though am not surprised to be honest. I played STO for over a decade and the social scene there is pretty damn toxic. I recall visiting Risa on several occasions (outside of the summer event) and being accused of being an "ErPiSt" due to the fact that my character was wearing swimwear and standing in very close proximity to another female character wearing a bikini. I quit STO too - the toxic community and the drama generated by said community being one of the many reasons I did so.
Interestingly, I'm fairly sure that the male/female player ratio in STO leans heavily toward the majority of players being male. Make of that what you will.

As you say, the community in FFXIV is far more open-minded and it probably helps that the male/female player ratio is far better balanced.

That aside, I don't see the issue with players making a character that isn't their R/L gender in any MMO. Its a game - the whole damn thing - every single aspect of it - is about escapism and anyone mocking another player's choice of character gender is either a troll or, frankly, not very bright.

I would not comprare Lost Ark and FF14 /WoW / Elder Scrolls in Case of Char Models ... of course in char creating you can see your good looking character but IG does not really matter in Lost Ark.
While on every other Game which is mentioned, you are near to your character any time your are logged in.

Coming back to the Topic, I as a male player like to have the possibility to play a good / cool looking male Hyur which I can identify my self with.
(never had this in WoW for example, here I never played my char for the identity)
Still, I have a female Alt, just because I'm Glamour addicted and testing around what is the best way to design Male or Female chars.
Every person is paying the same money on the game, so they should play what is fitting the most.

I only play females in MMOs, except for my Tauren Druid in WOW. I don't like the female Tauren model, and I love the massiveness of my cow.

I can't play males in MMOs. It just doesn't feel right to me. Maybe it is because I only play casters? Females tend to look better as casters (IMO). A lot of the female clothing in games tends to be very dressy. Lightweight, etc. Not built for being hit.

You are right on the clothing, but I tend to use the Aymeric Robe for my SCH or WHM for example ... my AST is a bit of a 80s Gentleman with Hat ... and so on .... Caster are more the "formal" way on my Highlander.
But you are speaking about an important point, there are many many items which are having a female "touch", and even if my Male is wearing it, it still got belly cut outs or having something else ... which is not fitting a big male Highlander / AuRa / Hrotgar ...

Imo, any gear looks good on a female toon, less so on a male. This is one of very few dude characters I've played and I definitely feel I have less options when it comes to making a wardrobe I find personally appealing.
