just as unrealistic as my dragoon jumping 12 feet in the air, or cloud jumping with the help of friends slinging him several hundred feet in the air in advent children, "fantasy" is not supposed to be realistic it is supposed to bend/break the rules. That is kind of the problem. It is nearly impposbru to do Jumping in a realistic manner. It doesn't matter if I can manifest fire from my hands or fight acid spewing tentacle hair balls, being able to jump my body height with no lead off and continue to do so as I trek across the game world over and over and over and over and over in Heavy plate armor is unrealistic. Just because your fantasy bends some of the rules and introduces some new ones that doesn't mean you can throw basic momentum and physical limitations out the windows because LOL FICTION!
You have to still make sense. Play by the rules. Otherwise you ruin the illusion, which is a big part of this particular MMO. Final Fantasies are first and foremost hailed for their stories and bringing the players into a world unlike their own.
Though there is such a thing as 'realistic fantasy'. It's still fantasy but still has hints of realism, iirc is technically defined as 'Low Fantasy'.
Fantasy may not be realistic but that doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be rendered realistically.
Dragoons use an ability to Jump very very very high and come down with their lance on an enemy. It is an iconic move for an iconic class. It also has nearly a minute cool down. That is part of the rule bending we talked about earlier. I can suspend my disbelief about the Dragoon's leaping prowess because that is what they do. I attribute it to some kind of Magic or Skill they've honed. Much like how I accept White Mage's can magically mend flesh.
That doesn't mean I think everyone can Jump like a Dragoon, at all times, without even being on the class. That is something that takes me out of the Fantasy because instead of enjoying the game I have to scratch my head and say, "How can I jump what scales out to be 5 feet into the air as quickly as gravity will allow while donning what should be insanely heavy armor? Or how can the Lalafell jump as high as a Hyur?"
And Advent Children is a movie. Not a game and that was one of the reason's I disliked it so much. They were over the top running up walled Dragon Ball Z physics everywhere silly during the final confrontation. While the rest of the cast were more in line with how the actual GAME physics and limitations allowed.
You are being awfully selective about what draws you out of the game. How can a tiny Lalafell take a hit from a giant monster just as well as a Roegadyn? How can characters who wear full plate armor run just as fast as those who wear light armor? Even beyond that, how can a Lalafell run as fast as an Elzen when their legs are so short? Do these questions pop into your head at all or are you just making things up to pretend that you actually have a point? That is something that takes me out of the Fantasy because instead of enjoying the game I have to scratch my head and say, "How can I jump what scales out to be 5 feet into the air as quickly as gravity will allow while donning what should be insanely heavy armor? Or how can the Lalafell jump as high as a Hyur?"
The reason why Lalafells can run as fast as Elzen and why the two races will be able to jump just as high as each other is for the sake of balance. If a Lalafell could get stomped into the ground by an average boss attack, like they realistically should, why would anyone want to play them?
If something as small as jumping actually takes you out of the game but these other things don't, I really don't know what to tell you besides this: you have obviously taken the time to accept the rules and mechanics of the Final Fantasy world(s), in time, you will come to accept jumping. Change happens all the time, if it didn't, we wouldn't have Final Fantasy XIV, we would still be on the original Final Fantasy.
what about this final fantasy game? it has jump in it.

Again you are picking the absolute worst possible examples of Jumping in Final Fantasy. Mainly to say they DID ruin the concept of the original game's physics and laws of character movement. That makes them very difficult to connect with when before you may have hopped 6 or so rocks to cross a river then suddenly everyone is a stunt double for Crouching Taru Hidden Meat Sausage.what about this final fantasy game? it has jump in it.
