If it's just an animation and doesn't move your character anywhere then it isn't actually a jump and that will turn out to be a very pointless addition to the game. I don't feel that this will be the case.
Then I think everyone can agree we need more clarification on the subject, I think we need Reinheart!
yoshi said it himself jumping is only there to jump, you wont jump fences , you cant jump out of ifrit plumes, its only there pretty much for the lolz.
If that ends up being true, the people that ACTUALLY wanted jump in the game are gonna throw a fit and Yoshi-P will probably listen to them eventually since hurr we gotta cater to a wider audience because that works so well right?
Seriously if I can't jump a fence why even have it in the game?
I hope it's not the case.
But when he says 'any of the gameplay', I hear everything from battle to environment. I would love for some distinct clarification.
I certainly agree with battle and fences, but I find it hard to believe you wont be able to jump some cliffs. We are also taking this from a translated interview. I think it is safe to say we need more info and if Yoshi is adding jump just as an emote then he is basically just adding in a tool for people to troll the anti-jumpers.
Asking for a jump toggle is not restricting the game to anyone. You mean all the first gen mmos that didn't have jump or anything worth mentioning for that matter? I don't care if you don't care about jump. I'm against retarded people wanting to restrict the game for retarded reason like "i dont want to see people jump". I don't want to see Elexia anywhere yet i don't beg SE to ban you.
1. It's not for you to decide where SE's resources should and shouldn't go.*
2. Close-minded? Funny since we're asking for an option, not to force anything down anyone's throats - unlike those that have demanded non-contextual jumping.
Helmets can be taken off in-game.
It's not for you to decide where SE's resources should or shouldn't go.*Tbh I think that's extra work for the dev team to add a silly/BS feature. XI is still my favorite, love-of-my-life MMO, but I played other MMOs too and jumping is not that big of a deal. Not big enough to be able to TOGGLE OFF ARE YOU FOR REAL?
What's next? Can I toggle Lalafells off because I think they're hideous little monsters?
Whether it'll look ridiculous or not is a red-herring. You won't be using it to begin with.Purpose or not, it's still a jump. It will move your character from one position to the other. It could be likened to an emote if you could jump straight up and ONLY straight up but I know that's not gonna be the case. You would prefer that they put in the extra work to add a filter for "immersion reasons" or whatever, but that would just result in characters teleporting from one spot to another because a jumps till moves your character's position.
So yeah, I just can't see an outcome where it makes sense to have the ability to jump in a game but also be able to toggle it off without it looking ridiculous. I think it'd be a waste of time and effort outside of a fan-made mod. Not to mention that the only thing they said about jumps being unimportant is that they have no influence in battle but that doesn't mean they won't be necessary to explore the game's world in some form. You don't think it would look stupid to see a roegadyn teleport from one ledge to the other when they add some (hopefully) well-designed maps and dungeons?
*This is a suggestion that SE can decide for themselves whether they want to use the resources or not. They don't need to be told how to use their resources, esp. considering the fact they've already wasted the resources to bring you the jump feature in the first place when they could've used far fewer and brought a contextual jumping feature instead!

i know someone was saying Helmets off and on ruined immersion.
Everyone in this thread is now dumber for coming in here.
oh 1 thing that jump was actually going to do was interrupt spell casting apparently.
