If it's just an animation and doesn't move your character anywhere then it isn't actually a jump and that will turn out to be a very pointless addition to the game. I don't feel that this will be the case.

I hope it's not the case.
But when he says 'any of the gameplay', I hear everything from battle to environment. I would love for some distinct clarification.
