Based on this, it seems like it's just an animation and won't effect your hitbox. Being able to toggle it off shouldn't be a large issue if that's the case, and based on this, it seems like the most likely outcome.

If it's just an animation and doesn't move your character anywhere then it isn't actually a jump and that will turn out to be a very pointless addition to the game. I don't feel that this will be the case.

But when he says 'any of the gameplay', I hear everything from battle to environment. I would love for some distinct clarification.
