Party Leader: We going to pull the dragon boss to the wall. Now I want everyone else to stand here so they don't get hit by breath.
Player A: Where is that I can't see you.
Party Leader: Right here where I am jumping.
Player A: I have jump turned off because it ruins my immersion and can't see you still.
How does jump ruins immersion, when clearly you lose immersion because you CANT jump lol, it's not logical to be stuck in the ground.
It's a joke. Some people on this site like to complain about it all the time saying it ruins their immersion. The above is an example of what would happen if they let people turn it off. Which is why being able to turn it off is pretty stupid in the first place.
To be perfectly fair. On average how many times a day do you jump?
Now on average. How many times a day would you jump if wearing full plate armor?
Will everyone jump the same height? Will Lalafells be upgraded with T-rex legs so they can jump proportionate to a Chigger just to match a Roegadyn's gallop? Will gear dictate your maximum vertical clearance? Will it not look odd when the Paladin that is wearing a Human shaped ice breaker hull can leap as high as the nimble Thief (Its coming!) donned only in his subligar and lucky Flee Shoes?
I'm not on board with a jump button. I would be ok with terrain context sensitive smart maneuvers though. You hate that ledge? You see that log? Observe that bottomless trench? Ok good, when your character presses up against them you will automatically bramble over. With a predetermined jump height, length, and pose. Let's people feel like that are actually run through and over obstacles they would encounter in the Wilds of Final Fantasy without adding, an admittedly, useless and therefore pointless gimmick which does get on people's nerves. I've being very proud of FFXIV for keeping things down to Earth. To go the way of the retard-o zoboomafoo lop because they want the Call of Duty audience would turn my views very sour.
Not much, but when i want to jump, i will jump.To be perfectly fair. On average how many times a day do you jump?

Which is what jump is all about, if i want to jump, i will press jump key. Will i keep pressing jump everytime? No, and also i am not going to argue about fantasy logic about weight and jump height. Bringing that up in the first place is......
This is the same scenario as /dance emote first implemented in FFXI, everyone spams it everywhere when it was first released and on certain occasions for fun, but it was never more than that.
Also, i don't particularly want jump either since i am not immersion nazi, but i am not going all the way to ask off button because really that is just silly.
Maybe i should also ask for display off Roegadyn and Miqotes too because jesus they are the ugliest race imo.
also while were at it, lets assign weights to every item you could have in your inventory and make the total negatively impact your maximum movespeed, sounds awesome, seriously are you trying to make SE lose money or do you not realize how asinine you are?To be perfectly fair. Stashed away implied potential mass =/= Tangible see-on-sight relative and calculable mass
It is assumed any loot and armor you carry around is hidden away in some kind of Bag O' Holding. Or just not brought up at all for the obvious reason that keeping tally on that and maintaining the illusion means everyone would walk around with a single complete set of gear and perhaps an oversized napsack for their jammies.
They used the Euphoria Tool for life like and realistic player animations for in-motion movements. Like when you stop from a full run you don't just halt at that precise location. Instead your character stamples to a slow then a stand. Leaning back and flaring their arms as a real person would do naturally. The /dance and all their other /emotes are very detailed and you can feel the weight behind each one.
The reason I'm concerned about jumping is it is not easy to do and if don't wrong makes your game look godamn ridiculous.
In nearly every single MMO I can ponder at jumping has never truly been done well. That is because jumping is hard in reality. Seriously, stand up and wipe away the Fun-O-yuns from your shirt then give yourself a massive hop. How much clearance did you make. One? Two feet? In MMO's every single godamn jump has the player clearing 4-5 feet. Not to mention the landing and stagger after, of which I mean there are none. Either the embrace realism and denote the fact that people don't jump and if they do they don't get very high. Or shatter any perception of the entire game's principle of realistic movements and let everyone jump around like the Contra Dudes.
WELL THEN MR. VERSED AND AWESOME GALKA DUDE. WHAT IF THEY MAKE THE JUMPS SHORT AND REALISTIC?
Glad you asked. They can't. Looky here.

JESUS CHRIST!
Look at her! That Mithra is made of high tension spring cords and jump jets. She all but Spider Man'd up a 3 story building. Now that makes sense because Cat girls are very athletic and 'bouncy'. I wouldn't put it past one of them to make that maneuver. What of a Hyur? Or an Lalafell? Not in this Umbra Era, or the next. Now do you see the problem? If you add 'realistic' jumping you could not standardized it across all Races because they are just that diverse in body make up that not even the most rabid Keyboard Spammer could defend it. The only solution is to make them different, which is a huge No No.
Different but all the same. That is FFXIV's creed. You may have chosen the Hulking Galka or the Lithe Mithra but as far as the stats and movement speed are concerned. You're all the same base model. SE would never break against that since it would give unfair advantage to one Race over another. Which I could easily see igniting a hellish fire storm the likes of which this Forum has not even begun to dread. If they had the gall to do so.
Leave Jumping to the Games which don't have the creative talent and artistic fortitude to explore their own unique solution to character movement.
+1 for that
What the game need is a weight feature like ragnarok online. Everything you have in your inventory and on your body have a weight. Weight limit is depending on the STR stat.
50% weight = no HP/MP recovery
90% weight = no HP/MP recovery and no skills.
We're not talking about jump happening or not happening, so get over it yourself. All we want IS AN OPTION TO TURN IT OFF, which if you really were in support of jump whether for the option of having it or because it makes the game more fun of, you don't have the credibility to be against a toggle.
I'll be very clear - those that have supported the full-blown implementation of a non-contextual jump have no right to be against us being able to toggle it on/off as we see fit. Period.
That'd be awesome.
