They did just that to add a jump emote ....

well in defense of the display head off. I like to see my characters hair and face. and for the sake of ppls immersion that they claim, you dont see knights in town wearing their helmets all the time they do take them off while they leave their body armor on.

So you could have just
/equip head
which would actually take off the helmet in town, I don't think that nights walked around with invisibutton helmets.

You can't argue for one toggle that serves no actual purpose but is just for aesthetics while knocking another that is the same thing. It's just arguing with yourself. If it's about immersion then shouldn't we have the toggle to ensure that all people are able to achieve equal immersion in the way they like. Not your way, since all things considered your way will not appeal to everyone, as mine won't.

It's not that they have an issue with reading or remembering. It's that they got what they were after now the idea that everyone won't have to see it disturbs them. It's the self centered nature of (fill in blank as you see fit) to believe that everyone should, nay, must accept everything the way they like it because other people just aren't as important as them.

On the note of jumping and or a jumpani toggle. Jumping is going to lead to headaches, I jumpclimbed everywhere I could even off maps in many games. MMOs don't need jumping they need to be designed without platform elements because they aren't platform games. I get that alot of people want to be able to jump, useful or not, and if they can great. I don't see why those same people take offense to the idea of people that don't want/care about jumping and would rather not see it. Oh wait I do understand I covered that just a second ago.

As a side note, I look forward to making my first "Shit I'm stuck in this cliff I was trying to climb." GM call. Not to mention the "Up a tree" people, we all know it'll happen if they make jump functional withing the environment and not just an emote. Wonder if we'll be able to slip up ontop of the sky and walk everywhere out of aggro range of mobs.

No, it exists because the people who like/want jumping basically stated someone shouldn't have the ability to filter the animation if they choose to.

Tbh I think that's extra work for the dev team to add a silly/BS feature. XI is still my favorite, love-of-my-life MMO, but I played other MMOs too and jumping is not that big of a deal. Not big enough to be able to TOGGLE OFF ARE YOU FOR REAL?

What's next? Can I toggle Lalafells off because I think they're hideous little monsters?

Considering it has no purpose and is more than likely just an emote, a lot of MMOs allow you toggle emote animations which is pretty much why it's not in the realm of being "a big deal or not", it's more given it's implementation it would fall into a basic MMO filter.

Purpose or not, it's still a jump. It will move your character from one position to the other. It could be likened to an emote if you could jump straight up and ONLY straight up but I know that's not gonna be the case. You would prefer that they put in the extra work to add a filter for "immersion reasons" or whatever, but that would just result in characters teleporting from one spot to another because a jumps till moves your character's position.

So yeah, I just can't see an outcome where it makes sense to have the ability to jump in a game but also be able to toggle it off without it looking ridiculous. I think it'd be a waste of time and effort outside of a fan-made mod. Not to mention that the only thing they said about jumps being unimportant is that they have no influence in battle but that doesn't mean they won't be necessary to explore the game's world in some form. You don't think it would look stupid to see a roegadyn teleport from one ledge to the other when they add some (hopefully) well-designed maps and dungeons?

It's JUST JUMPING. This 21 page thread exists because one guy is disgusted by the possibility of seeing characters jump around?

No words FFXIV forums. No words. That's not to say I believe this game NEEDS a jump command, but at the same time, why not?

being able to bunny hop around is more realistic than not being able to jump up or down a 1 foot cliff. Not having jump breaks my immersion.

The toggle won't effect those that use jump, just how others see them. You can still jump around to your hearts content, but we won't see you doing it. It won't hurt you in any way.
