Wasn't the whole argument for jumping that it allows for more options? I don't see why a toggle that in no way effects jumpers themselves would be such a bad thing. It shouldn't be that hard to add either, considering that it's only an animation and your actual hitbox is still on the ground (if the no function interview is to be believed).
You get arguments that tell us to just deal with it, but why? For an attention hogging animation with no practical use, a toggle would be a fine option to those of us that don't want to see it without bothering the experience of those that do.

While choice is a lovely thing, I would first want to see what not seeing the jump animation while its happening would look like before I agree with a toggle to hide it. I mean if the character jumps but you don't see the animation, what WOULD you see? I find it hard to believe that it would be as if nothing happened (like now for instance, we have no jump... so would a toggle make it look like NOTHING happened at all? as in the character stays on the ground and no movement indicating an action was performed shows?) I mean imagine I jump over something, would a person with the toggle off just see me disappear and reappear where I landed? O.0" that would be odd as hell honestly.Wasn't the whole argument for jumping that it allows for more options? Well that's just it. According to the interviews, we won't be jumping over anything. It's just an animation to please those who wanted it and 'adds nothing to the gameplay'.While choice is a lovely thing, I would first want to see what not seeing the jump animation while its happening would look like before I agree with a toggle to hide it. the interview doesn't specifically say we wont be able to jump over anything though. all we know is that we wont be able to evade anything with jump. I suppose a clarification from the devs would be nice.
The same would happen as if it were a cutscene/contextual jump of sorts.
Wrong. In the end this entire thread boils down to not wanting jump, which is why I said the devs are already adding it due to not only PLAYER request but because it is an MMO standard.
1. It was requested as an "option" that people felt they couldn't live without.
2. It's being implemented as fanfare.
Those in support of adding jump as an "option" and/or because they couldn't live without have no right to oppose a toggle feature. Furthermore, it doesn't matter to those that aren't going to see it how it'd work; any attempt at opposing this toggle is blatant hypocrisy for those supporting the option to have jump implemented in the first place.

I got that they where just using evation as an example, and the fact that they said 'any' involves all aspects of gameplay.
Would love to be proven wrong though.
Pointless jump is pointless.
It's funny how quick the people who said "Jumping wont ruin anything let me have it" are the first to deny others the abillity to ask for the same right to toggle it off.
I think people are also mis-interpreting Yoshida intent with jump, until we know otherwise we wont be able to "Jump" over or onto object any more than we can walk up/down cliff faces.

Toggle jump is not necessary. Go login to any MMO right now, rift, WoW, Tera, and you don't see 20 people in town jumping jumping jumping no. It's normal. They all just stand in one place. Occasionally you'll see someone running and jumping, but that's it.
